Saving variables in MP game?
« on: 26 Aug 2002, 16:05:59 »
Hi!
I've got one, not so small, problem so I'll ask help from you!
OK. I want to make BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG map witch contais lots of playground etc. This is like one big campaign that has only one mission. And I want to save my skripting variables to server, witch is dedicated.
So is this possible, and does someon have any experience about this?
Game would save variables every time when group hit to trigger so that when we want to quit playing, we can just start from same positions next time.
And this map would be so big that it would take days to play trought, so it's really like a campaign.

I know that SaveVar works only in campaings that are really made to campaing files, but does dedicated server support campaigns?

There is no such thing as a multiplayer campaign.  You either have to have one big mission (like you have), or split it up into smaller "chapters" and number them.  There is no way to save data from one mission and use it in another.

Its not the answer you want, but its the correct one.

This bugs me too. There is a command called textLog in the scripting reference but it seems to do nothing.  :(

What is really needed is a command that can write text to a predefined logfile. (Then all the information you wanted could be found in the logfile after each mission).

Hope it will be in a patch some time (please) ;)
