MILES Trainings System
« on: 24 Feb 2003, 21:52:29 »
Anybody ever thought about making a MILES System for OFP.

Pretty much the only thing Americas Army has more than OFP.
Would be kind of interesting to play a bit different

personally speaking the miles is not practical in this game i dont really like it in AAO either but i just like the satidfying spray of blood and explosions that only live rounds can create

It'd be like paintball, without the paint balls.
Trained to Fight, Trained To Kill, Ready to Die, but Never Will.  Marines Make the Blood Flow, Blood Makes the Grass Grow...

I for one think it is a good idea.  It would make an excellent addition to any training mission.  I think it would be nice to do a training mission, and you can face some of you own guys without killing them.  It would definetly be a change from killing everyone you see.

As  a person that used to controle the "GOTCHA" gun I always has fun taking my time getting to the "dead"... I for 1 think it would be great for training. have a beep if it is a close shot and a steady tone if is a kill...

The group I am in has basic training for our recruits, and it would be nice to help them remember to keep their head down next time as they walk to an umpire station to have their miles reset... I think it would be a good teaching tool

hmm, I made a script for that once, Ill C if I can find it. Aha, here we are. Its not perfect, but it does the job (U would need to add in sounds yourself)

Quote
_man = _this select 0
_pos = _this select 0

#check
?getdammage _man > 0 :goto "move"
~0.001
goto "check"

#move
removeAllWeapons _man
~5
_man setPos getPos _pos

not tested yet, but anyways, when your dammaged, all your weapons are taken off you and your setPosed to a safe point of your choice. To use, put this in the soldiers/tanks/helis/anything that moves init
[this,safepos] exec "MILES.sqs"

I gotta say, its a nice idea in terms of making good training missions. I mean, its impossible to make a really good training mission at the moment, as its like, your killing guys :P

We could have it so that units are forced to sit down when dammaged, and setcaptive=true. And if a unit is killed, give them health back. And disable player imput for the player.

If anyone can get me pics of the MILES gear, i will make it, unencypted, then u can put it onto units as you like, dont have wounded textures (so there is no blood), and save the units as, for example MILES_soldier.pbo. Then ingame, youd have, say, a soldier equiped with miles stuff, i could make the dammage sound a beep instead of a cry of pain, ect, so that when u shoot it, no blood appears, but the unit "beeps" when hit, then the scripts force it to sit down when dammaged  beyond a certain point.

Im going to do something similar to the INQ M4 pack....you know how it had all the parts in, and you constructed your own out of it.....well, im gonna make something like that, and you add the parts to your units and guns as you like, apply the relevant scripts, and there you go.

If you can research it for me, ill thank you in the readme  ;D

By what I see the US Army, UK, Germany and Sweden all use the same system (they definitly do for the Tank-System).

Here are a few pictures from the german System (AGDUS)

yeh, the brits use it for Urban training (being its main application, where bullet ricochets could be deadly)

OK so it seems like, a belt of little optical recievers that go round the head, and boxes around the body, one on the chest, a larger one on the back.....
