I tested the road maker a bit and...  :o ...all I can say is - awesome! :D It's an excellent tool and pretty easy to use. The roads it makes are flawless! No more seam-hunting ever again! Thank you, thank you, thank you! :)

In the movie "Animal House".....right towards the end...there's a kid sitting in a room all by himself, reading a playboy magazine. Suddenly through the window flies a girl dressed in a bunny suit. He looks up and says "Thank you God!". I know how he feels  ;D ;D

Fantastic stuff cupid! (except Valentine's day was a couple of days ago..  ;) ;D )

Could it be possible to stretch the road editing "screen" from 256*256px to 512*512 or something, because 256 not enough for accurate road placing..

OK, I'll try for it...but, after clear some BUGs. It'll takes certain times.

And garcia,

if you get error while loading WRP file.
make sure that
1. your WRP file is wpredit compatible (OPRW format)
2. You have no "Blank" model name in WRP file (try "remove unused" int wrp edit)

if you get still error, If you don't mind, please send your wrp file to me, It will be used only for debugging.

Good. I don't know if your "road placing algorithm" can do it, but could it be possible to connect the road from its both heads, not just from the starting point? I know it's much harder to code and the road would never go along the drawn line, because there aren't many different ways to go from a exact point with exact angles to another.. But still, it would be great. Now you can't do "loops" without using junctions.

It would be also great if user could determine the size of the road editing screen, because in some cases even 512*512 ain't much enough.

Yes, indeed, the "loop" is one of my certain issues. I try to find formular for it.
It's QUITE HARD work...
but, I have some ideas...cause the roads have fixed length, and curves...

Maths... drives me crazy.....

Yeah, I know. Even if you some day found a formular for "loops", it would never ever give a road that would go even close to the drawn line.. In the original islands in OFP the roads are not placed as accurately as your program does, they overleap a little in some places. Maybe because it would be much easier to do better loops if you didn't have to place the roads as accurately.

Those loops aint that necessary, correct the bugs and stretch the editing screen to 512*512 and your program will really kick ass :)

Edit:
Oh yes, a mirror. I uploaded it to here: http://www.saunalahti.fi/~reimam/OFP/RoadTool.zip.

in the pic from WRPEdit i've marked the area the forest are with red, and as u can see from the other pic(my mask) it isn't even close to were it should be...

In your reply, It seems... 512 * 512.... It's work only 256*256 mask.

Wow! Does the loops go even close to the drawn line or did you have to change your algorithm so that it lets the roads overleap a little (as does the original roads in OFP)? Did you increase the resolution in the road editing screen?

And.. Is the angle checking done automatically in this version or does the user still have to type the starting angle manually?

Yeah, I did little overlapped. but for only loop.
and, for road placing, yes, I made another algorithms...

And initial angle... it's a good point, Thank you, I wouldn't think about it.

Yes, indeed, it is. but, In a game, You can see the forest sitting tight on the ground....

cause I have no data for height conversion, wrp unit-metric unit, so I had no choice but follow doctowrp.doc's suggestion.

I just wanted to thank you for creating this program.  While it is not "ideal," it suits my needs much better than click and place each item.  Thanks a million.  It is much easier to control-delete any extra items that are created than place a million new ones.

For those that have questions about the "small" size of the view window and the difficulty in seeing their maps - I use a cheat to get around this - I use the Windows < Accessories < Magnifier tool.  This way, I see exactly what I need to at the top of my screen.  It seems to work pretty nicely.

Regarding the program, is there a direct way to place Res objects?  The way I do it know is add a bush in your program and then replace it with a Res object in WrpEdit.

Lastly, is there a way to create straighter roads?  As they are, they are just slightly too curvy.  I am not complaining, I am just wondering if there is another way.

Again, thanks for providing this excellent tool!

in version 1.01, It can be more straighter.. I changed road placing algoritm.

it will released in next week, i think, with some new features. And you can see what they are, in this post.

Nasty Buttler,  try screen capture...

Zoom out your island to minimun size in wrpedit. then, its size will be 256*256.

hey mate, wheres the new version we have been waiting for...im DIEING FOR IT!!!

also u need to make removing road alittle easier, when i remove road and then add another road when i go to put it into the wrp its got both in it....any chance u can fix it??
also is there a way u can line up bridges with road segments...cause its giving me the total shits.....would it be possible to up the resolution of the mask to something like 2048x2048...cause i was thinking of actually taking screen captures of the map in the editor.....wih testures etc....that way i could line it up perfectly with bridges and other things....or even better is somehow intergrating it into WRPEDIT  .......no pressure mate...lol.....j/k....keep up the good work, hope to see the new version soon  :D

First off I wanted to say, again, great job!

Next, I had a recommendation (not just for this tool but any that allows placement (random) of objects:

Would it be possible to introduce a variable that randomly changes the direction of the object.  For instance, if I use a particular type of tree they are all facing exactly the same way (0 degrees).  With a "randomizer" they would automatically be facing different directions, thus adding to the realism.  I am not sure if this is possible, but it would help.

Last, I wanted to that I went back and redrew some road segments and it seems that the shorter the distances involved (still using several points), the straighter the roads.  It is the long roads that begin to swerve dramatically.

This tool has helped save me countless hours.  In my last map, I spent weeks just placing roads in what your tool takes maybe 45 minutes (from nothing to final touches).  Fantastic!

Sorry for that, I, currently, have some coordinate problem with LOOP. It works different than I think.....I thought, I could solve in a short time, but... it takes too much... ^^

And phaeden, all of your recommendations is implemeted in a new version.

CupidMoon your Roadmaker tool is really AWESOME!
My only problem is the size of the mask, its too small
for really accurate road placing (like some others have mentioned earlier).

But its already now a must tool for mapmakers in my opinion.

Any news on the new version?

Well gave the tool a good try. Its kinda like working with a wild drawing tool. I had numerous roads looping all over the place. If you want a straight road forget it. It also had a problem if you put our pen close to the edge of the map. Wouldnt draw the red and blue line. Well keep up the good work and Ill check again for next versions. Thanks.

Gday..
Whats the story here guys..Cupid you havent posted in over 3 months.. you havent passed on i hope..
What is the gossip on the Road tool.. i am desperately after the updated version (as is everyone else).. If a host is needed it wont be hard.. but this tool is a MUST for the community.. CMON CUPID..MAKE US ALL PROUD..
As previously stated any way that this can easily used in conjunction with wrpedit is a bonus.. WRPedit is still the leading isle making tool in my opinion..With this road placement tool and a copy and paste option... mmmm..chocolate..  ;)
MadAussie out...
