Choppers and AI players
« on: 07 Feb 2003, 20:39:01 »
I'm a newbie to scripting, so bear that in mind when you read my Q...

How can I get an AI player to board a chopper (as pilot) and make him take off with the chopper???

 ???

Thanx in advance

This does not require scripting, although you can do it with a script.

Give the pilot a "Get In" waypoint, and place the waypoint on top of the helicopter.  Then, give him whatever subsequent waypoints of your choosing.

He'll board the helicopter, take off, and fly to whereever you specified.

It is not nessercarily that simple. If the chopper is empty the AI don't like getting in. Well this is what i have found anyways.
If you name your unit, for example man. And name the chopper, and example being chopper. The right on a get in waypoint's activation field:
man moveincargo chopper (thats if ya want im in the back)
or
man moveinpilot chopper (if ya want im as pilot)
or
man moveingunner chopper (i think ya got it by now)
This is quite clumsy however as the unit will just pop into a chopper when it reaches a waypoint.
I expect there are other less other ways, if so i would like to know as well.

incidentally, it's moveInDriver not moveInPilot. It'll make the unit specified teleport (if the slot is empty) to the driver position (in a chopper's or airplane's case the pilot) instantly.

Although I can't see why you couldn't use the get in waypoint...always worked for me. Then again I'm still a retro 1.46'er so... ;D

And another solution:

chopPilot assignAsDriver chopper; [ chopPilot ] orderGetin TRUE

same thing as the get in waypoint really, first you assign your pilot as the driver, and then when you do the orderGetIn, they'll run for the chopper ;)
But, but...it should go well. I'd go with the Get In waypoint though.
