Mortars... AI firing them indirectly...
« on: 05 Feb 2003, 12:21:08 »
I have a couple of mortars set up , a short distance behind the front lines.... I have AI manning the mortars and want to make them provide indirect fire on a particular area or target...

The only way I can think to do it, would be to create game logic objects and combine them with triggers so that when an enemy activates the trigger the onactivation in the triiger can give the dofire command and use the game logic as the target... problem is I don't think this will work as the mortars won't have line of sight to the game logic object....

anyone?

I can use an arty script to simulate this but I actually wanted the mortars to originate the shells. This is using the Mortars addon from Fortress OFP.

I have a feeling the AI can't target gamelogic, try invisible markers instead, or an invisible helicopter landing H.

Give it a go and see whether it works, you never know.   Your basic idea of triggers, doTarget and doFire does work in principle.

Alternatively, if you can place the mortars accurately enough (I don't know the addon so this may not work), a simple doFire command may do the trick - the shells will land in the right place.       In general the AI doesn't need a target to fire a single shot, and obviously you cann just repeat the process.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

Ok, I have the same problem, but I wanna do it this way and it might help you too if we both get an answer:

They shoot, but the shell disappears and you use a artillery script instead. How do you then make the shots disappear?

Do you want them to dissapear because they aren't going to hit the target????

Is this due to the distance to target or the trajectory?

Basically, I have got a mortar section setup on a map which does not have line of sight of the target area and I want them to be able to fire in response to a command or trigger etc. at a particular target location on the map.

We just have to get the awnser of the destroy command if thereƂ's one and you can camcreate your shells at your GameLogics
