An idea for VTOL aircraft
« on: 12 Dec 2002, 05:23:49 »
Okay some thing just occured to me and it may work who knows. With aircraft like the Harrier and osprey people have only been able to make it fly like a heli or a fixed wing aircraft. A possible solution may be to use both.

Now your probebly asking how?

Well would it be possible to create a script to change flight characteristics in mid game? So a pilot would take off/ Land like a heli but when getting sufficiant airspeed would then choose the "thrust forward" option in the scroll menu and the aircraft would change classes and fly like a fixed wing?

I wouldn't really know where to begin since programing is a weak point but it might work.

Klink, you're with the Falklands team, right?

Anyway, there is a solution to VTOL aircraft, and it's being worked on. But that doesn't mean we can't continue to discuss it.

After all, a script can always be improved upon ;)

Very true. No problems there at all mate. I'm hoping there will be an easy way to implement it from within the addon.
Cheers

Execute this script for example: Place a Cessna and write this in its init field
Code: [Select]
[this, cessna] exec "vtol.sqs"This is not an awnser on that ccp question but its the script.

i think pretty much all we need for a vtol to work is for there to be the 'Auto Hover' action of a helicopter on a plane, not sure if this is possible with scripting though, it may be one for BIS
