How to run the game in a window?
« on: 21 Jan 2003, 23:24:44 »
Greetings!

I'm somewhat frustrated since I cannot make Operation Flashpoint run in window mode. It always runs on Full Screen, and the alt+tab seems to often take ages to switch.

I would like it to run the game (the editor) in a window, since it would really make simultaneous scripting, editing and previewing easier.

Thanks for the help!

Can you force it somehow by going in the exe properties and checking some 'run in window' tag in there  ???
Not all is lost.

Unfortunately, there is no "run in window" option in the EXE properties. I have also tried creating a shortcut of the EXE. In shortcuts, there is a dropdown list called "run", with options "Normal Window", "Minimized" and "Maximized".  However, none of these makes the game run in a window; it's always in Full-Screen mode.

I know it SHOULD be possible; I remember reading instructions to it a long time ago in a gaming magazine (Pelit-lehti).

In case someone has such an option in OPFLASHPREFERENCES.EXE (that is the Preferences utility), please let me know. I do not have one.

Well, in fact, I solved the problem myself by using the -window tag after the command line in my OpFP Shortcut. So the starting command is operationflashpoint.exe -window .

However, there is a NEW problem. Or, it's not a terrible one, but a problem still; there are two mouse cursors on the screen simultaneously, moving at different speeds. I don't mind the windows cursor being on-screen when I use the game cursor, but the problem is that when I press my mouse button, it will primarily take any response from the windows pointer. So I'll have to keep both cursors on the same window simultaneously unless I want to skip to another program.

In the end, I can live with this if I use a full screen size window in the editor. And even like this, the editing work is a LOT better.

Hello

Well, there is few programs to do this for little easier. I use "OFP Starter" as you can set parameters at first. You can start Original or Resistance. In window or in fullscreen. And what is best, you can get rid of those splash screens and OFP will start much faster...

Try to search OFP Starter...
