special operations...
« on: 26 Aug 2002, 10:32:53 »
in the mission i am creating, i have this specops soldiers attacking a resistance base.... They are better trained and better equipped than the res soldiers (and better outnumbered :) ). The training diffence can be rendered via the skill parameter in the editor, but, will the AI soldiers automatically use their equipment like night vision goggles, binoculars, bombs and so on or i have to write scripts for this?

the NV goggles will instantly modify any unit, so that its vision range is WAY extended during the night, same thing goes for binoculars during the day (not sure about during the night).  NV goggles make the AI a lot more effective, theyll engage ai from ranges from which non nvgoggle ai wont even shoot back if fired upon

as for bombs, im not sure.  i remember i was in an abrams, and it was ither a spetz natz or engineer, that got really close, layed a bomb, and detonated it.  this was simple ai, full skill settin, and they had NO scripting...

its quite neat how it works, they will automatically use night vision if its night time, and they will use binoculars if they are patrolling or ordered to scan horizon, but in realistic terms, spec ops dont usually announce their presence until they are actually where they need to be doing what they need to be doing, so you will only have people who are on sentry duty who would be looking out for them

for satchel charges, you do need to script that in, but once again, i dont think that many peeps bomb their own base, unless it was to cover their own tracks....

EDIT> lol u beat me to it
