Pardon, My Waypoints Are Showing!
« on: 19 Dec 2002, 19:08:01 »
I'm working on my first mission ever--well, my first serious mission--and I notice that when I copy stuff from underneath my Users directory into the single-missions directory and play it as a regular single mission, the briefing map shows the player's starting position and waypoints: the starting position as a black circle with a black X in it, and the waypoints as the familiar black dotted circles with black arrows connecting them.

I don't want the waypoints to show up in my mission briefing, any more than they do in the standard missions.  I do want the standard yellow captioned marker square ("[ ] Return to Houdan") so that a Cadet player will know what he's supposed to do), which is why I used waypoints in addition to triggers.

What am I doing wrong?

Also...is there any way to make the map you see during Preview look a little more like the map a user will see when playing your mission--for example, to make it show one's current position or symbols for enemy units one knows about?

Thanks,
Barak

There are three different options for your waypoints...  "never show", something i forgot, and "show always"

I think yours are probably on "show always" if they're showing up in your briefing..

as for your position and such showing up when you are previewing in the editor, what you'll want to do is play (or at least load then quit) a single player mission before heading to the editor.... this is because the default setting for the editor isn't cadet... you need to play a SP mission first to switch it over to cadet mode for the editor....

Hey, hold on a sexond. Didn't you say you copied your user file to the mission file ???   :noo:

When you've finished makin your user mission, when you go and click "Save" and at the bottom it says User FIle. Change that to Single Mission.

I tried that "export to single mission business, O'Neil, and it worked nicely; thank you.  Before, I had been grafting the entire .../Users/<user>/missions/<mission> directory into the single-missions directory.  It was working okay, but your way is easier--except that OFP holds the .pbo file open after you finish the mission, so if I playtest it from the Single Missions menu, I can't make a modification and re-save it.  (It looks like I can, but it fails silently.)  I have to get out of OFP, delete the old .pbo, get back into OFP and the mission editor, load the mission, and re-export it.

I'm pretty sure "Show always," "Show as Cadet," and "Never show" aren't the problem.  I have "Show as Cadet" on for those waypoints.  I'm talking about the waypoints showing on the map, not in the first- (or third-) person view.  I want them in first-person, and I don't want to see them on the map during the mission.

Thanks again...
