weapons.cfg in GOTY

Hi

I am very new to Operation Flashpoint, but I understand you can edit the weapons.cfg file, to add different weapons to certain missions, when I open this file with note pad, it is just gobbledegook!! am I doing it wrong, I have the Game of the year edition

Any help would be great
