the init.sqs file ....
« on: 09 Dec 2002, 14:07:11 »
Hi All,
Please forgive my newbism. I've managed to figure out how to create a mission, briefing, overview and a few other goodies. But for all of the tools I've Downloaded and the 100+ pages of tutorials and notes I've printed ...I still don't know how to even CREATE this "init.sqs" file.  Is it just a text file you create in NOTEPAD or WORD and save as ..what?  ???  ??? I've seen plenty of descriptions of what script to put in all over the place, but not where to start.  :(   ???

I'm also having an issue commanding units in MP that were created with the  this moveincargo jeep command in the unit's Initialization field.    i.e., in MP mode, the units do not want to disembark the stopped vehicle, though they did in preview mode. The driver is a non-playable AI unit and the  3 troops are under the Group leader's command from the beginning. I tried normal combinations of "Get Out" and "Transport Unload" synched WP's but couldn't get it to work. Does the "movein" command alter /negate the WP's somehow by confusing the AI as to where it is? :-\    ???

BTW , I am a total non-programmer, in case you hadn't guessed. I'm rather surprised that BIS made a Mission Editor where certain parts of the mission (unit creation, waypoints, etc.) can be chosen by a 4th grader , while other essential parts (briefing, description, initialization and condition fields, etc.) you must spend many hours reading to figure out how much stuff you realize you don't know!  :P  :D

I can't even seem to find the so-called "sticky's" in this section and have had little success with the search feature, so thanks a lot for any help! :)

Hi.

Yes, init.sqs is just a file. Create it with the notepad and save it as init.sqs. Save it as *.* (I have the Spanish windows version so  I don't know what text comes toghether with the *.* in English, but it may be something like 'All files'). Well select that and in the field where you put the name of the file, put init.sqs.

You'll have to set windows to show file extensions. In XP from any folder window click "tools", then "folder options", then "view". In the list uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". In Win98 I think its somewhere under the "view" menu option. Once that's done just start a new text file with notepad, put in what you want and save it to the mission folder as "init.sqs". It will ask about the weird file extension saying it may not function, to which you say ok.

Ok, Thanks guys, that's very helpful . I guess I tried creatinbg one in notepad before but the icon looked different than others I had seen so I thought it might not work.

Any thoughts on the movein command problem I'm having?
