Russian small arms project
« on: 01 Dec 2002, 07:25:50 »
Here's the first nearly-complete model for my Russian weapons addon.  I know I should be working on the SR-47 project, but I can't seem to stay focused on a single project.

This is the VSS Vintorez.  I haven't finished the PSO scope yet, so it has no optics mounted right now.

I'm also going to make the AS Val, since I'm about 80% done already.

I got your config.cpp, thanks very much.  I think since it's not any trouble for me, I'll also add nonsuppressed versions, so I can add those myself.  I think I understand the config structure.  I see you added some soldier units with the weapons, but I'm not going to add units with the unsuppressed versions, they will just be available if someone wants to script them into a unit's kit.

Here's the latest VSS Vintorez renders, the completed 1st person LOD -

Another masterpiece from earl :)

Just a suggestion, would it be possible to you to a make versions of your russian weapons  (VSS and Abkan) that require UCE's Modern Russian Infantry Addon?

That's a good suggestion, but unfortunately it doesn't work so well. Many people won't like if your addon needs dozens of another addons to work, for example LoBo team's UK & US special forces pack...

That's why i'm talking about releasing two versions of earl's addon - one that uses regular BIS units, and the second that requires the UCE's (ubdated by  NoRSu ;) ) ones.
I'm sure that there won't be any probems with finding additional FTP space.
Another way to do this is to add second pbo file in the upcoming addon zip. This additional .pbo would contain only a sigle cpp file which woul enable UCE's units equipped with earl's Russian small arms in the editor unit selection menu.
However, a major drewback of thing is that the number of unit entries would be at least dubled.

Well you may instead add an ammo crate containing the addon weapons. I guess it goes for you SR rifles as well as for Russian small arms.

Yeah, I don't think I really want to have units for my weapons.  A new ammo crate would be a better idea.

I think it's only a good idea to add a new infantry unit if he's visibly different from the others.  There's no need for 18 different riflemen units for every new rifle I want to make.

It's not that difficult to script a new kit into an existing soldier.

will you be making any old-school addons that are sorely needed like AK-74, Ak-47, etc? THe BIS models are *lame* and even the UCE reskins are crippled by this.

Well, here's a quick list of all the weapons that I'd like to start with  ;)

AK47
AKMS
AK74
AK74M
AK104
AK105
AKS74U
AN94
RPK
RPK74M
PKM
SVD
SVDS
SVDK
SVUA
SV99
SV98
V94
KSVK
VSS
AS Val
Groza (system)
9A91
VSK94

I'd also make some pistols and SMGs, but mostly I will have those models ready for Raven Shield - they aren't so useful in OFP.

I'm also going to model some Russian optics to mix and match on the weapons as I see fit:

Cobra reflex sight (AK104, AKS74U)
Compact collimator (Bizon)
PK-01 collimator (9A91)
PSO (VSS, SVD, SVDS, SVU-A)
PK-A (AS Val)
1P21 (SVDK)
1P29 (AK74)
PO 3x21P (AN94)

That's not a full list of how they will be used, just some ideas off the top of my head.
