Can u add in the next patch some Vietnam buildings for better villages and VC\NVA bases ? Some wooded towers (we can use Zwadar's one now), fences with spikes, raised houses etc.

Nice 1, ebud !

Since 1993 i wait to return to RSSZ and finish what i started hehe.  ;D
Anyone remembers SealTeam ? Believe it or not, i DLed the demo somewhere and tried it. Jesus - it looks horrible for todays standards.

Question to ebud: will some rivers be deep enough for boats ? I just think it would be nice to have a mix there, because to have rivers only crossable with boats would trap any unit without a boat on a small piece of land. And to have rivers only crossable on foot and no boats would surely take away a lot of atmosphere, wouldn't it ?

I was hoping that all of the rivers would be boat only with no foot crossings except possibly in some of the smaller canals. The bad part is, due to the way the tides work, you cannot make really shallow narrow canals. When you do, when the waves rush out, the water totally goes away. This kills the idea of have rice paddies with real water in them.

Bridges might be a possibility on this map, if and when it gets finished. To make it easier, I'll be importing this height data into the Ia Drang, then moving most of the objects around while adding a few new ones rather than starting from scratch.

New huts are in the design phase, along with new cultural objects such as wells, cooking fires, monkey bridges ( for show only), new plants, trees, etc.

But I'd like to point out that we are pretty much still in "vacation mode", at least I am for a couple more weeks, but there is so much to do :) I personally think a new island is really needed more than the armor pack or plane pack, but that's just my opinion. It will take the longest, so I'm sure much of the other work we have started will be finished before it will be. We still need to re-work the Ia Drang a bit, finish the new huts etc. I just wanted to see if i could make that terrrain first since I had started it. I also have Ilo Ilo island 1/2 way "populated" as well. If anyone with some free time would like to help me on either of these two islands, let me know. It would be a lot of moving plants out of the rivers, but it would help quite a bit.

If you're in a war, instead of throwing a hand grenade at the enemy, throw one of those small pumpkins. Maybe it'll make everyone think how stupid war is, and while they are thinking, you can throw a real grenade at them.

SEB team = Gods among men  8)

First one was good, this one reigns supreme.

The only minor, petty detail I'd like to raise is the M16 auto sound.  For me, at least, it seems that if I fire on full auto then the sound overlaps itself and I get more of a clicking sound until the last shot.  Semiauto doesn't do this, and it doesn't happen all the time...strange.

Rather than rant and rave about how good this pack is, I'll just go now and salivate over the ARA bird some more.

Yeah, if anything needs serious work, it's the sounds, ST explained why it worked that way.

I appreciate the constraints of OFP engine but:
Ia Trang was vast but maybe it needed some areas that were actually more like a forest, ie: more difficult to walk through.  An overhead canopy with taller trees, with the different levels of vegetation.  I know from experience in Belize that sometimes it was quicker to crawl through an area than stand up and walk cutting your way through.
Some of those big old fallen trees to take cover behind and walk  across rivers would be a nice touch. Apparently these were quite common due to  random artillery fire of areas to keep charlie on its toes.
Would it be possible to make some punji sticks to use in the editor? I think it be good to randomly place these around trails or VC villages.

All good points, and they will all be looked into when remaking the trees for Ia Drang.

Remember though, most people already have huge problems with the amount of detail already. What your asking for would theoretically cause the game to become a slideshow if the viewdistance was more than 500. Then think about adding in 512 x 512 textures. So if you really do detail it out like that, AND make it look nice, people will cry about it being slow. You really can't have it both ways. A very detailed forest with hires textures AND a playable high viewdistance with a heavily forested map. When I get time over the holidays I would really like to look at this to see how it could work.

If you had been following the thread from the beginning, you would have seen some screenshots of just what your asking for. I did remake the trees to be around 100', but was never able to finish them in time, so now I'll redo them.

Those were modified from a DF3 jungle tree... this palm is also a modified DF2 tree. The next image is made from scratch.

made from scratch. It's not a tall tree, but I made this one with the river/swamp map in mind.

Thanks.. all of that testing will hopefully make for some nice trees of my own. Had to see how the pros made them first. Pretty simple, I just have to sit down and finish them.

-1 bike for civilian vietnam a little rusty and with mud on wheels
-a hooker dressed in red and a scooter for the hooker
-and 1 US soldiers with that hat just like Mel Gibson in the beginning on the movie when he is in the aircraft shalter talking to the sergeants he had a hat there or you can know what I mean if you watched the movie Hart's War with Bruce Wiles he has a hat you know now what I am meaning ???
