Deployed and need assistance
« on: 10 Jun 2011, 20:18:59 »
Good evening everyone,

I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan right now and they block a lot of Arma sites I.E Armaholic. I'm pretty new to scripting but, love this game and trying to get better. Is there anyway that someone can post an attachment of an Arma 2 editing guide that a can use or a couple. If you need I can give you my email. Thanks :) :cool2:

I think we first need to ask, what kind of scripting will you be doing?

I do have this SQF scripting help.. thing, I do not know if it will be of any use. Care to throw us a hint into what direction you may be looking at going?

Thanks killer appreciate the help, :good:

Right now I have just the basics down. I am looking at creating missions on the game from missions I actually ran out here with my team. I.E a unit is starting off on base like a FOB or a FARP (forward arming and refueling point) Then travels outbound for a simple presence patrol type of thing. The unit runs into an IED disables the vehicle and we have a minimal injury. So I call in a routine MEDEVAC for the patient, the patient then boards the helo with an escort and is sent back to the FOB for medical care(This point I'll just made him become deleted) Then I would like to have something else happen. I usually will use the SecOp module for this.

Also I like defending a base that becomes under attack after a civilian goes through a checkpoint in a vehicle. The civilian exits the vehicle once inside at the designated spots. He then exits the vehicle and is complying with personal then runs toward a guard and detonates himself. After this other personnel will come to assist and at that point enemies will begin an attack on the base.

Just stuff like that but, I would like to learn different thing about scripting so I can start to develop more in depth missions. Starting with the basic things and moving to more advanced stuff I.E use of modules and triggers and writing script inside of init. files and further creating a playable mission.

Thanks for all the help in advance, it really means a lot. I'm at a small outpost in Afghanistan and I can only get online when able and half the time all the sites to download manuals are blocked.

Welcome to OFPEC; glad to hear we're available as a source of help.

If you want a good quality (downloadable) guide, Mr Murray's is among the best. It's for ArmA, but I daresay it will still be applicable to Arma2 for most of the generic stuff.

There's also a PDF version of our COMREF compiled by Mr.Peanut available. It was created before Arma2 came out but again, definitely useful.

Save the postage: we've fast-tracked it through the Editors Depot.

Download it here. Thanks to Armaholic for the file.
