.PAA File question.

I was wondering how to create .PAA files, and are they necessary, or better than .jpg? I've unpacked a lot of mission files, and seen .PAA files, seems like they're kind of popular.  :)

.paa is not necessary and in fact is a larger file size than .jpeg.
