SMOKE..SMOKE..SMOKE DANG YOU

     OK, I give up. I cannot for the life of me get a smoke shell to work ( for marking an LZ) i chuck the smoke thing on the ground, and it just sits there, throws up its arms and goes "what?".  Is there some scripting command I am missing to get it to activate?

 please help, its a small detail but a fustrating one, thanks for any advice

you can create a smoke shell at a game logic.

smoker = "SmokeShellRed" camcreate getpos gl

create a gamelogic called 'gl' at the spot where you want it to appear, and type that in the on activ of a trigger or waypoint.

Can it be so that you have a graphics problem. Maybe try fiddling with the gaphics settings?

You do cancreate the smoke right? like

_bomb1 = "SmokeShell" camCreate [_xco + Random(_areaX2) - _area,_yco + Random(_areaX2) - _area,_zco + 50]

   an intersting point. I never really considered the graphics issue as a problem. I have a geForce 3 64mb card, p4 1800 mhz, with latest drivers, the intersting thing is that from the beginning through all the patches and upgrades i have never been able to enable the hardware acceleration, i can click on the option, but does not let me change it. Funny I have a great system and i can't seem to get the smoke effect working, it would probably explain why i cant get fires to work either. well any other things besides technical issues that would be causing the smoke canister not to go off??

but that only affects game playability... so.... i think its graphics - but witha  card like that, hmmm... it could be your memory - what memory do u have?

Nope. Can't think of any other reason, IF you're doing everything right in the editor. And even if you were doing something wrong it can't be of that, because you say you can see the smokeshell (but no smoke)

But hey, it's easy to test this one. Throw a grenade or bust a tank/truck and if you don't see any smoke you know you've got yourself a graphics problem. And in that case I really can't help any more, because it's not my area.
Heh.. I just go to a store and say "I'll take that one" and if somethings wrong I'll go back and say "You suck, give me another one"  ;D

Hope you get it to work though.  ;)

ps. I've got the same card as you and no problemo.

 oh man, [bows his head in shame] I've been making missions left and right and having a blast with this game.... I never knew there was supposed to be smoke from destroyed units. What a bummer. I have no idea how to remedy this. And to think...the game would be even better if what was wrong worked..  to the note above I have 384mb ram.  well thanks for the input guys, you've always been a great help, i suppose i can back up all my add-ons un-install and re-install the whole thing

In your options settings under video/graphics make sure cloudlets are enabled. That should be your problem. :)

   I'm not sure how it's spelled, but I would call this one a "okums razor" the cloudlets WAS the problem...  thanks again all !!
