Help with 2 simple questions (I think!)...
« on: 01 Nov 2002, 06:30:15 »
1) How do you set the height of an object?  I want to place a radio or computer on a table.

2) How do you make a plane take off?  I have it on the runway ready to go with a presence trigger to set it off.  But I can't make it take off using waypoints, it just turns and drives off the runway.  Also, (another related ?, sorry) how do you make a plane land on a runway?

Thank you in advance!  I know the answers may be out there, but I am having trouble finding them.

Hi Scalptrash

1, place your object or unit on the map. Double click it and in the init field of the object/unit type the following exactly:

this setpos [getpos this select 0, getpos this select 1, X]

What is X?

X is the height (in meters) that you want to place the object.

Keep playing with the value of X untill you get it right.

Note: Most if not all unit (soldiers) will start at that height then when game begins will fall to the ground or land on a roof top if that is where you want the soldier.

3d Objects like tables and chairs..I believe (maybe not all ...not 100% sure) should remain in the air.

Jeeps, trucks plane etc will fall to the ground (or again rooftops).

As for question 2. Outta my league at the mo tho Ive read other peeps have same problem. I heard only one island (Everon?) is designed with the correct working runway for ai aircraft. Please someone correct me if Im wrong here.

cheers Zay

BTW I am dying to find out if anyone is at least trying to solve my Haloexample merged with the dropfire example map that I have posted.

I think I have the answer to question 2.

You know when you use the landing autopilot? Well, it tells the plane where to touch down and from what direction.
What's that got to do with the Question you say...
Well, it's the same principle for taking off, you can only takeoff in 1 direction.

i.e.
Everon: Land at the north of airport and takeoff at the north of the airport.
Malden: Land at the south of the airport and takeoff at the south of the airport.
Nogova: Not sure, but I think it's the north.

I hope you understand,
Waterman. :)

Thanks for the help guys!
Zayfod, I had read something about that before, but it wasn't very clear.  Thanks for clarifying!
Waterman, what you are saying makes sense, however I am not familiar with the landing autopilot.  I have read some vague stuff about it and played a mission that used it (didn't work!).
I would think that you have to either have a script or there is some type of command to make a plane take off.  To make the transition from the ground to the air.  I know there was a mission in the original campaign with A-10's taking off, I might have to de-PBO that mission and try to figure it out, if possible.  I have never tried a de-pbo and I am no expert, but not a novice either.  But that's why we have these forums, right?
Thanks again and if anyone else can shed some light on planes it would be appreciated.

To make a plane take off ya just need to put it on the (small) taxiway,
set the nose direcly pointing SOUTH, then give the bird a WP to the southern end of the big runway, and from there a WP to wherever spot you want on the map somewhere.

See, the planes ALWAYS take off from >SOUTH towards >NORTH.

And they LAND in the same direction  :-* :)

Thanks Tomb, sounds simple enough, except I have two problems.  I am trying to make planes take off and land on the small island north of Nogova and there is no taxiway, and it runs east/west.  I will experiment with your suggestions and try to get it to work (so far unsuccessful).
Also, what is the command for a plane to land and is it triggered by a trigger or waypoint?  Thanks again, you guys are always helpful.

Hi Scalptash.
I don't think you can land at the airport on the North of Nogova. You can only use the one in the desert on the main land. It's the Engine. It can't hve two runways. Well i hope thats help.

Take a look at SEB's Ia Trang Valley world.  It has 2 runways and I'm pretty sure they both work.

Ah, nevermind, I can't get either of them to work.
