Group Link 3 As Script

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knew how to convert Group Link 3 v1.3 into something that is not addon dependent, but rather based on scripts. In the previous version, Group Link Plus II, addons were only there for sounds and voice, but now the new Group Link 3 v1.3 seems to have turned the entire thing into pbo addons.

you can probably un-pbo the addon if it will let you and there might be a folder called scripts of something of the sort.... hope it helps

Yes, I've tried that. But when I played a test mission, none of the effects seems to be working. I'm guessing its because it still required the use of a mod folder path from the properties of the launch file [@GL3]. I'm looking for a way to make this work without having to do that, and simply being able to put everything needed into the mission file as scripts only.

You may want to cruise through this thread. afaik its addon based, thats how I use it...

Group Link 3 is named after an ancient ol' script by toadlife, for his mission Operation LoJack (which we for some absurd reason haven't got hosted here anymore ;)). In the -original- groupLink script all it did was "link" the groups you wanted together so that if one of them got an enemy contact, they'd call for reinforcements from one of the other; and then that group, if sufficiently wounded, would call for reinforcements from yet another group etc. In the original script you could have them patrolling using waypoints etc. normally, and you could also determine "base" groups that wouldn't be called off as reinforcements but could still call for reinforcements.

In a later version of grouplink he added a "rating" system, in which different types (cars, tanks, planes...) were given different ratings, and based on those ratings the group would call in the appropriate response. E.g. if an infantry group was getting swamped by a tank platoon, they'd call the closest higher-rating group to aid - for instance a helicopter squadron, or a friendly tank platoon.

In short, a very nice, very easily usable and very adaptable script that would make the enemy plenty more challenging - sort of like a macro version of Kronzky's invaluable Urban Patrol Script.

Obviously the original GL didn't have any of the fancy-schmancy smoke-throwing, suppression-taking, cover-seeking, shouting stuff that I understand GL3 has, but it worked.

Sadly no-one has ever converted it to work for ArmA, but if you want to have a shot at it, here's the only version of the GL scripts I found on mah computer, attached.

Also, I found toadlife's old...website...thingee...where he's got his scripts & missions etc. Linky. Good stuff.  :good:
