Using teams with AI

I'm developing a script to execute some standard US tactics such as "successive bounding", "alternate bounding", and some other such tactics. While creating this script, I was hoping to use teams to control the bounds.

I have found the assignTeam, and dissolveTeam commands, but is there any way to select an entire team? I guess that in assigning teams, i could store the teams in a variable, but I would rather not do it this way.
