Hi all,

When creating an MP Mission, what are the advantages/disadvantages of creating the mission via the editor (and exporting to MPMissions when done), vs. using Multiplayer -  New - Edit mode?

I just discovered the Multiplayer - New - Edit mode after all this time...lol.

I guess the obvious advantage is that when previewing you get the true Multiplayer join window where you choose the playable ai.

Edit:  I just found a disadvantage-->the RTE (real time editor) doesn't appear in this Multi-player edit mode.

Any other trade-offs?

Thanks.

The time it takes to preview the mission is greatly increased in MP.

In MP you can have people join your server while you are editing and then you can play the mission. Everytime you need to tweek something just open the editor back up while your friends are still on the server.

I still prefer the in game editor over the MP editor. Even though I only make MP co-ops

In MP you get respawn and non-played players won't appear (depending on settings). You can also use the MP chat commands (sideChat, etc, both in the mission and for debugging purposes).

I only use the MP editor, mainly because it is generally more appropriate for what I'm doing and I can't be bothered moving the files from Missions to MPMissions folders all the time. Yes, preview is a bit slower, but that isn't so much of an issue for me compared to the other advantages.

there is no 'advantage' to any of them more than the other.

2d editor allows quick placement and testing.

MP editor.. test all the things that only run in MP settings.

RTE works for fine tuning the map. (and there is a MP version (local))

so.. in my opinion... a good mission maker uses all tools at various stages of his/her mission development.

sometimes you will get this error regarding __cur_mp.pbo.
It should be the pbo created by the "server" to be download by clients. But it seems to be that the directory for this file is the same for both.
