the official bis flare gun.

the weapons list for ofp on ofpec states that it is simply called 'flare', but i have tried adding this to an ammo crate to no avail. i've tried flarelauncher, flaregun, flare, flarelaunch, but nadda. anyone know? ta.

thanks, but i tried these. in an ammo crate's init line i am putting the following: this addweaponcargo ["flare",1] and getting no weapon available.

and for the gun
this AddWeaponCargo [""FlareGun"", 1]
Not sure if the syntax is right, written off the top of my head

Ok got it, I did a search and found a quote from Planck from 2003

In the official game the only way to fire flares is with the grenade launcher that can be attached to the M16 or AK74.   You'll get the exact names from the Weapon and Ammo listing in the Ed Depot

You'll need an addon for an actual flaregun.
sebnam and fdf had one
Best standalone addon I could find is this one

ah. ok. it all becomes clear. i must have an addon which gives me a standard 'officer (with flare gun)'. i'll depbo the addon and look for the class name there. thx for your help denz.

The addon on the LOL server is Kegety's flaregun from his winter pack ("KEGFLAREGUN").  You must also add magazines "KEGFLAREWHITE", "KEGFLARERED".  Unpbo my Running Scared mission and look at the init_west* scripts.
