Addon editing
« on: 26 May 2007, 14:17:37 »
I recently had delusions of grandeur and thought I could edit an addon I once downloaded, for my own private use, of course. Never got past the removing of the goggles and a few pouches. When I try to retexture the damn thing, it looks OK in buldozer, but when I try it out, the supposedly retextured parts are white! Now, I have used the search option, and the pcc files' paths and their lenght isn't the problem. I was hoping you could tell me what is.

Thanks in advance!

In Oxygen, select the faces that are giving you the white texture problem.  Then click Faces-Face Properties.  Check the path of the textures to make sure that they are correct.  Start the path with the name of the addon folder, so if my addon name was MyCoolAddon, and the texture was MyCoolTexture.paa, the path should look like:
MyCoolAddon\MyCoolTexture.paa

EDIT:
PCC isn't a texture file format.  It's either PAA or PAC.  Not sure if that was a typo or not, but it doesn't hurt to make sure

Hmmmm... Actually, the paths weren't right. The model was betasol/rok_sol2des1.p3d and the texture was Hrvati/helmetside.pac (yeah, it was a typo). I should mention that betasol is a decompressed pbo located on C drive and Hrvati is a folder I created in a fake drive wich you need to make to run Oxygen and in which Buldozer is installed. But now I tried applying a texture from the betasol folder, and Oxygen won't accept it. The surface is white again, only this time it isn't only in the game, but in Oxygen also.

Help?

Hello Yopa,

Ok,White surfaces appear when the assigned
textures can't be located.

If you want to successfully compress your work into a pbo, you'll need
all relevant textures in the addon folder you're using.

If you're working from the folder "BetaSol",that's where
all your textures should be.Just to keep things manageable.
It'll make it a bit easier to spot bad file paths,if you know that
all your material is in the same place.

Move the folder Betasol inside the O2/Buldozer directory.

And there's actually no need for drive subtitution.
I have my O2 folder on my C:\ drive. No substitution.

Ie;C:\O2

I stopped using the Subst command a long time ago.
It caused me more problems than it solved.

I have had my O2 installed on some X:/folder/folder2/folder3 (even in several different computers) since it came out for the public and never had any problems with it so I don't understand why it should be in C root or some subst stuff to be used..

Hello h-,

Yeah,I should've added, that if you have it working
then leave well enough alone. No point in changing
a setup that works.

But the option is there. While using a bat file to
set my O2 folder to a fake Z:\ drive,I experienced
the occasional problem.For instance,background textures
not showing up,because O2light would go looking
in the original folder instead of the "fake" drive.

As soon as I stopped using the Bat file this problem
disappeared. And so did a couple of others.

I followed the excellent O2 tutorials by Brsseb, including
the use of the "DOS" Subst command to set up O2.
At the time,I assumed that was the only way it
would work.But I've since discovered it's not
needed,as have many others.

I was suggesting Yopa keep any work in one place,
only until he gains a little more experience, with O2.
:)
