.sqs, .sqm files and Windows XP Search
« on: 21 Oct 2006, 00:46:25 »
Not exactly and scripting question, but why is that Windows XP File Search does not look for (or find) indicated words in these filetypes?

Strange

When you do the search, do you put in the file name the extension aswell?

Yes I do. Doesnt matter *.sqs or *.*, the search engine seems to ignore these files to look for text inside them

I looked around on the net for a 1 minute or two with no luck.

I decided to try something.
I went into Control Panel > Folder options > File types > i tried adding the .sqs and .sqm files to the extension's list and then search.. but still no luck.

CD, are you searching for files with "fortress" in the name or with "fortress" text inside the file contents? I was refering to the second case, searching for files with a text string inside the file, not the filename.

lol - you're right Mandoble - i was searching for filenames and not for text inside the
files - got you wrong on that one.

Also you're right with your conclusions - a search for text being contained pointed me
to a readme.txt file but not to an sqm sqs or pbo file.

Probably XP "thinks" .sqs files are binary ones and XP only looks for text into "text documents", somewhere in the system there should be possible to register new file type as searchable document

Well, i couldn't find any info about supported fileformats for the windows search
but imho this is really very very off topic here at OFPEC and me thinks this thread
is more related to a windows forum than to us.

I thought to enter the discussion to help out with a quick answer but i was terrible wrong.  :D

Don't expect the thread to last open long - maybe someone will hop in with a good answer
before it's getting closed though.
