Inquiry regarding editor upgrade
« on: 27 Aug 2006, 21:05:58 »
Barron's editor upgrade looks like it ALLOWS you to place units that are already included with OFP that you can't normally place. I'm making an addon-free map and I want to know if I use this editor upgrade if players will also download the addon.

I would also like to know where to place barron's editor upgrade since it does not specify where you should put it.

the editor updates go into the standard addons folder in your main ofp game directory.

if you use this addon to place objects, the players will need to have the addon to see those objects, even though they're strictly speaking already in the game. however, a) most people already have the general's editor update and b) even if they don't, 104kb is not much to download.

There is a addon that lets you add some of the editor objectes, yet other people who play your mission wont need it.

Ive attached it below..

hmm - i've checked the pbo file you've attached Jason and it's adding new editor classnames;

so how should one not need the addon?

Did you try to create a mission with it and then remove the addon from your addons folder (or wherever
you placed it)?

@U_Z - editor addon is no problem for anybody to have installed (takes seconds to download on lowest
conection type available atm) - if anybody wouldn't want to use it for any other reason than not getting
ofp properly to run he doesn't deserve playing your map.  ;)

If you use editor upgrade and place a few objects and save the mission, then alt+tab out you can see that editorupgrade is in the list of addons.

If you use the resistance patch it dosent apear.. and also I havent seen anybody having to d/c because of the objects placed.

Well Jason, the fact that in mission.sqm you cannot find it in the addons or addonsAuto list
is because in the Resistance object Patch config is not the entry:

addonsRequired[]

This entry should make it appear in the mission.sqm addons list, if entered correctly.

Now that nobody did need Resistance object Patch installed can also come form them having
another editor upgrade / editor update / GB's editor upgrade / or whatever else upgrade.

If you for example have GB's editor upgrade you can still play missions, being made with the
previous made editor upgrade (by Kegety's).

Only way to really determine wether Resistance object Patch is required or not is: to make a mission
and place some objects of it (but some not available in vanilla ofp editor).

Then starting ofp without any addon and trying the mission.

I don't believe that it will still work then, since some classes from those editor upgrades (or whatever) are just
not defined in vanilla ofp.

The Resistance object patch is not needed by anyone playing the mission. Trust me, I've used it in just about every mission I've ever made, and there have been no addon errors about it from anyone who have reviewed them  ;)

God knows how it works. Clever though.

Try this sample mission if you like. Make sure the res object patch isn't installed when you try it.

OK, i'm at work and can't check it in ofp right now, but i believe you.

I've checked cfgvehicles in the comref in editors depot and all classnames
can be found there. But this means also that Resistance Object Patches will
not dig out anything what isn't available from Vanilla OFP (talking about Resistance and not CWC btw).

Everything can be made with camcreate or createVehicle.

While with General Barrons editor upgrade will unlock some stuff which you cannot access through
OFP Vanilla, therefore i'd suggest GB's.
