It would be great if OFP allowed the scope and scale of the map to be large enough to make cruise missiles and long-range, high-speed, super-maneuverable fighters and bombers have an active role in the game... but the maps just aren't big enough. Unless you have them parked in a hanger, for destruction by ground forces, or slower CAS type aircraft, then it's just not really feasable. Someday soon you will see games that will combine smooth, crisp and intense first person shooter type gameplay such as Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear/Ghost Recon, great squad-based MP action like OFP, and long-range, global-scale strategy such as Harpoon 2/3/4, and Fleetcomand. I'd say we could expect this within the next five years or so, when the necessary hardware is available in the average gameplyer's home. But until then, assets like the modern strike weapons you are thinking of are little more than eyecandy in OFP, I'm afraid.
