Error Importing .asc model to O2
« on: 25 Nov 2005, 20:10:32 »
Hi everybody.

I have recently become interested in modeling, mostly because there are a couple of "toys" I'd like to play with in OFP and that were never made.

Unfortunately I'm finding out that "modeling" is extremely dificult to learn and I simply don't have neither the talent or the time to do it.
So, as an experiment, I considered the option of importing existing models from other games such as Flight Simulator (I'm trying to import two planes)  into OFP.

I found out that this was possible through a series of conversions

.mdl format (which is the format you download most FS add ons)
to
.dfx format
then to
.3ds

At this stage I thought it would be easy to bring the planes I'm trying to import into O2.

But so far I had no luck:

I tried importing the .3ds file but it crashed O2.
Then I converted the .dfx file to .asc and tried to import that

but an error appears that says:

Unable to Load file. Load error

Just as a side note: When I import the file from the .dfx format to .3ds some parts are not visible... it's like they were lost in the conversion (?).

I hope I made myself clear... and maybe someone can help...
Thanks

AFAIK O2 only imports .3ds files.

Although I believe they sometimes fail if there is missing KDATA.

Try reading this  topic and see if it helps.

EDIT:  After a bit of searching, I found this  other topic which might help you further.

I have no idea what KDATA is  :P but yes, the .3ds model has some faces missing from the plane's fuselage and some from the wings.

I think I've read almost all threads related with converting .3ds to O2 and so far nothing worked.

I guess I will have to try to learn how to model these planes  :-[

Try these search results I found using .asc

Hopefully one of those might help you further.

Thank you... but no luck.

I'm following the "How to build the Piper Cheyenne" tutorial now  :-\

The planes I'm trying to model (in case any of you feel like helping) are:

- Fiat G91 (aka Aeritalia G-91), served in the latter stages of the Portuguese Colonial War (1973)

- NA T6- Texan (aka as T-6 Harvard), a trainer that was converted to CAS and widely used by the Portuguese in Africa.

I have also contacted a guy in the Colonial Wars Mod, hopefully he'll be interested in helping and adding both aircraft to the mod.

Thanks for the help!
