A unit (usually a platoon or greater) is inserted on or near a target, and attempts to destroy vehicles, munitions, and personnel in the target area. This is usually followed by defensive preparations to hold the area against a counter-attack. The unit can be inserted by slicks, vehicle, APCs, aircraft, or by foot to attack the target.
- SAR/CSAR - Search and Rescure/ Combat SAR
A unit is deployed to an area to recover a downed aircraft, or find a lost unit, etc.
- COMPAR/CP - Combat Patrol (abreviations may vary depending on military schooling)
A unit (usually a platoon) enters a defined Area of Operations (AO) and actively patrols, searching for and attempting to destroy any Opposing Forces (OPFOR) in the area.
- ALPHA BRAVO - Ambush to you
Any unit or team finds an area of much cover (versus concealment), plans fields of fire, lays APERS (antipersonell) or claymores along a well-used route of the OPFOR. When the OPFOR enters the target area, the ambush is executed, then the unit exits the area as fast as possible.
