Best "US" handgun
« on: 21 Sep 2005, 12:06:44 »
I'm making a mission in which the player starts with the MM1 grenade launcher.    The player will have also have a handgun for close protection and for shooting one of his own squad to get a proper gun when the MM1 ammo runs out after about 3 seconds.   ;D

He is part of a relatively standard US infantry squad taking part in a relatively standard daylight attack on a Soviet position.

The question is, of the BIS weapons which handgun is

a) most likely in RL to be the one actually carried in this sort of situation?

b) least likely in RL?

c) the one you'd actually prefer to have?

No addons please, this is strictly an addon free mission.    For reference, your choices are:-

Revolver
CZ75
Beretta
Tokarev
Glock
GlockS        (hint: it isn't this one)
Skorpion
Ingram

And please, no protracted discussion about whether this is truly realistic, or what would actually happen, or what you'd really like to have .... I really don't want to have to lock my own thread for being off topic .....   :P

Many thanks.

a) In the US military, the Ingram is actually known as the MAC-10, and is used as a PDW (Personal Defense Weapon). This out of all of the choices, this would probably be best choice because the MM-1 is a support weapon, and the soldier fielding it would need a PDW. Also, the M9 Beretta is the standard US sidearm if you choose not to use the MAC-10.

b) Any of the soviet guns would be unrealistic.

c) Hard to say. I personally own a Glock 27C but the M9 and the MAC-10 are all cool weapons (in RL). I would probably say the one with the biggest mag size ;D

I go with Tyger, the MM1 with Ingram is the best (and the most natural) combination.  The revolver is most powerful of course (he drops the loon with one shot no matter where you hit him), but in reality it's a pilot's and officer's sidearm.

1) The beretta is, AFAIK, the standard sidearm so this will have to be my choice (but I don't think it's intended to be used against your squad mates in a standard situation  ;))

2) A sharpened spoon (I have no opinion, actually)

3) The revolver (because it looks cool, sounds cool, and makes me feel like Clint Eastwood)

Thanks chaps.  I'm going to go with the Ingrams.  The Beretta is too crap and the S+W just doesn't fit in with the mood:    its all straight infantry work, very open play with long ranges.

Yes.  Can't remember which patch.   Don't think it appears in any units (maybe police?), you have to add it with addweapon commands.

Ingram was added in patch 1.85, along with the bicycle and (I think) the green Mini.

You know what the Americans are like. They love their guns. I reckon your loon could have any of those weapons. He could probably get hold of them.
