No texture loaded

ok this is my first try at modelling, i am following a tut by BRESSS and it teaches u how to make a big red crate, ok i have made the crate and the lods for it but when i go to texture it it mess's up. i press the A key, highlight what i want to texture, i right click and click Load Texture, click the one i want, then make the box then when i press the B key it says "no texture loaded"
i have know idea why this is not working i installed everything just right and all that stuff so........WHY?!?!?

You should select the face or faces you wish to texture.

Then you press the 'A' key and draw your rectangle to hold the texture you wish to load.

Right click, the rectangle and load your texture.

Once you are happy you press the 'B' key to apply the texture.

Repeat the above to texture another face....be sure to only have the face or faces you wish to texture selected.
