Setting Object Heights - Help Needed

Has anyone had trouble placing objects at different heights, particularly on top of each other? I saw the thread on Bridges, and wonder if my problem is similar...

In short my map has a few objects that are not "fit to ground", and they all work just fine......except when inside a Hanger2.p3d (not fit to ground) I put a Barels.p3d (fit to ground) and the another Barels.p3d on top of it (not fit to ground). It renders in WRPEdit just fine, but in game it draws the two Barels in almost exactly the same place....and I get that wonderful flickering  :P

Any ideas/good techniques on the whole "fit to ground" issue out there? Would be most welcome :)
