That 'Ding' is REALLY annoying!
« on: 25 Jul 2005, 18:06:34 »
Has anyone found a way to access that 'ding' noise? I want to replace it with a silent noise and maintain my radio volume. Anyone know where that stupid 'ding' file is?

OFP/Dta/Sounds.pbo I think
Make a mod folder, say "shh", and in that, a folder /Dta
Then copy the sounds.pbo to it, and remove the sound (Not sure what one, sorry :() and replace it with a empty file of the same name and make the PBO up again :)

Can't I just:

1. Open the Pbo
2. Find the ding noise
3. Delete the ding noise
4. Make/Find an empty/queit noise with the same name and put it back in the sound file.
5. Close the file back up to a .pbo

I dont know the first thing about making a mod folder in a DTA folder.

For information about mod folders, read this:
http://www.ofpec.com/editors/resource_view.php?id=520

They're not hard to use, and I quarantee that it'll be harder to replace the ding sound. ;D

It was quite simple actually...just like ColdKilla said.
And i didn't use modfolders, I replaced the original pbo (I first made a backup offcourse)
It takes some time to pack pbo, but beside that it's done in a minute or two.

Indeed, you can replace the original sound.pbo with modified sounds, it can be done. :) Though I always use mod folders for things like sound replacement, so I can always start a clean and fresh OFP if I don't want to run any addons or such things.

In fact, the clean way is the modfolder way.

Off course there's no reason why overwriting the original
shouldn't work same like using a modfolder, but an original is
an original and if there's any way to keep an original untouched,
then this is the way to go.

Once you figure out how easy it is to overwrite this or that, you
become addicted and probably you gonna start overwriting more
than just the 'ding' - and if you do it with the original, maybe
some other stuff will stop working as intended to be (like 3rd
party addons which use some of the original stuff).

If you changed too much from the original you might get lost
about what and where and then could happen that it'll be time
for a fresh install and everything you've done was for nothing
at the end.

While when using modfolders you can even switch between
heavy modified or 'ding' removed only, etc.

Yeh, that what I mean :P
Basicly, rename your new sound.pbo file to something like NoBeepSound.pbo, rename the old one back. Move the NoBeepSound.pbo to
OFPFolder/Shh/Dta
And rename it to Sound.pbo
Then to stop the beeps, run OFP with -mod=Shh

This way, if you want to play online, you wont get "modifed file Sound.pbo" messages if you dont run the mod folder
