Modified night vision proficency

Since I'm editing a night time mission wich takes place in modern days, I wonder if it's possible to modify the night vision ability of the player only, to reflect the increased quality of the latest generation's NVGs.
I mean: is there a way to modify the layer (because is a layer, isn't it?) that is putted on the screen the moment I hit the "N" key, in terms of, ate least, field of view (and maybe quality) ?

As far as i know that can't be done without replacing the NV.pac or paa files in the Data3D.pbo and Data.pbo.
It may be possible to script on the player but the ai would'nt gain better nightvision... as far as i know ::)

But I begin to suspect there's no way to obtain such result without  a specific addon or without editing some file.....
