how do i stop the shaky camera view movemnet
« on: 09 Jul 2005, 09:11:17 »
I wonder if this has been brought up yet but, I was wondering, when playing OFP with missions that have alot of objects to where when teh sound becomes sporadic, I notice that alot has to do with the fact that it was to shake or viborate with the weapon being used. I notice that when firing the weapon , to get that shaky feeling the whole frame or picture has to shake and when there are alot of objects or buildings it tends to make the sound very unpleasing. Is there a way to shut this off in OFP to where the whole camera view is not affected when firing a weapon?

Could you say or explain it again a little clearer?

Are you talking about it freezing up or lag or fps rates?

Well, when firing a weapon, the recoil affect. Not only does the weapon have recoil but it affects the whole frame or picture. I was wondering if there is a way to shut it off in the config file so that the sound wont be so sporadic when adding alot of objects because it seems the more objects or buildings there are in the game the more things that have to move along with the recoil. I figure this would be one way to eliminate that choppy sound when firing automatics specially  very fast machine guns.

I'm still a bit confused but it sounds like lag to me. :P Turn down the settings?

Actually, testing a m60 right now, my screen jolts a little bit, but it seems realistic enough, I mean my head would move around a bit if I fired a M60 mg from my shoulder. :P

Like I said, I don't get what you're saying. Especially don't understand the bit about sounds. :-\

I believe that he is saying that when the weapon fires, there is a recoil effect. These recoil effects cause the perspective of the player to jolt back at rapid rates when using a machine gun. He wants to know how to remove the recoil effect in the config.bin in order to improve the speed of the game. It is believed that the constant recoil effect causes the sound of the weapon to seem choppy. This can be noticed with BIS's m60 when being fired non-stop.

Hey Blue, you hit the nail right on the head, thanks. I've always had trouble trying to explain myself correctly to where others can understand, I can do it better in person  :-\

Yeah, especially when using other mods, like the 1944 mod and the MG42, very very sporadic, it sounds like someone trying to spit at a very high rate. Because of the very many objects and the moving objects or units that also have to be moved along with the sound and gun it makes the computer's sound card and processor to work harder and therefore makes it sound very imcomplete. I notice that in other games it does not have this feature. It would only make sense to have this feature when using a scope or using the optical option.

Well I understand now...

Do you have a decent system to run OFP? Because it still sounds like lag and turning down the settings, not altering all the standard addons to have no recoil (which is really no fun, I tested a weapon once with no recoil and it was like shooting a laser beam :P), is the way to make your game better.

@I44 mod: You know all their Mgs have a 5 round burst option? In addition to full auto? That plus whatever else is happening could be causing more problems.

Well i've seen the weapon recoil and it does have weapon reciol climb. The issue I have is the whole frame shaking along with the weapon. I have a 2gz  proceessor and 128 mb ddr ati 9500/9700 graphcs card.

Well its usually not the graphics card. As I remember running OFP with a 64mb card. (good old days, sorta  :P) How much RAM do you have? 512 usually works fine, people below that with awesome OFP performance don't yell at me, and if you have decent RAM then its prolly the processor speed. Otherwise, try the -nosplash -nomap and maybe remove some of the unnessasary addons from your folder and turn down the settings. Even powerful  comps have trouble with OFP on its highest settings. :P

I feel like I'm going offtopic now, since its becoming troubleshooting, but try OFP on low or the lowest settings you are willing to accept when all that happens. Also I find that games run best after a restart of the computer, not sure if it really does anything, but it seems to work. :P
