Command Ref problem

It's taking me a long time to find answers to stuff, and a major problem I have is that while scripts have version numbers on them (eg., 1.46, 1.75) some 1.75 scripts do work on 1.46, etc. If I look in the Com Ref there are no version numbers on commands and functions, so I have no idea what will work until it bombs in OFP or not. Is there a 'best Com Ref' for 1.46 guys?

I would just suggest to update your version of OFP. Most scripts from now on will be for the latest versions.

If you want a comref, I'm sure that people can assemble one possibly by checking every command in the current comref on a 1.46 game.

Get Resistance/GOTY.   End of story.   It's cheap now.  

I don't think there ever was a 1.46 comref.   I think there was a 1.30 one.    If the Editors Depot doesn't have it try the BIS site.

Argghh!  I keep saying this (ok, in threads you may not have read):

Resistance 1.96 fecked my laptop (P4 2.8ghz, 512mb Ram, 1400x1050 TFT, GeForce Go5200).  You'd think that spec was ok, right?  Not.

1.96 went slowwwww... unless I set the graphics so bad it in 800x600 that to be honest it wasn't worth playing.

Resistance CD went in the bin in two halves one night after too much frustration.  1.46 runs like silk and looks good, and I'll put up with its limitations thank you very much.

Pardon me if I ask for advice on 1.46 a lot, but there must be many others who either haven't bought 1.9x, or can't run it because lag is anathema to their souls as much as it is to mine.  ;)

try this - it has 'compatibility' listings, so at least you know what's available and what's not.

btw, have you tried updating your graphics card drivers?
Usually the first driver releases suck beyond comprehension.

+ OFP increased in speed if anything for me

Yep, I updated them recently, and the Go5200 64mb card isn't bad considering it's a built-in laptop job.  I've overclocked it slightly too (though I don't want to push it until its brains blow).

The problem was that 1.96 seemed smoother in smaller missions, but when the action got going it was a lot slower than 1.46, and it realy got on my nerves.  No worries as it is now, just the odd limitations with commands, etc.

right answer for his questions  ::)
Everybody has his own reason for what version of the game
he got or not got.
If somebody doesn't have ofp res yet, then i would asume as the
last reason: money, as it's really cheap now to go for 1.96

OK, said that (*feels better now cough*)  ;)

Corben, you could try the various different updates (patches) - as
filesize shouldn't be too big for dl, and check out their readme's.

There should at least be mentioned: what's new / what has been
changed.

This should also give you some clue, of what did work before or
not.

Hi Chris - thanks for your comments.

I think, if I remember rightly, that once you've gone to 1.46 (which my original CD is anyway) you can't go up to 1.75, etc, unless you have Resistance..?

I'll check the sites, as 1.75 might be not so cpu hungry as 1.9x

hmm - nah Corben, 1.75 should be same cpu hungry as 1.9x,
as there were no visual or acustic changes made from 1.75 upwards. Only changes were commands/newer units/weapons,
or even some changes on flight dynamics (to improve dogfight
abilities for ai).

The only one engine change was the jump from CWC to RES

OK, maybe there were some engine changes belonging to network
data transfer being made during the patches (to improve multiplayer performance), but for cpu performance there were
none.

:edit - and btw - you're right - 1.46 is the last patch for CWC, and
1.75 is there where Resistance started.

Err... not to keep steering this thread off topic, but you have a MUCH better system than my (1.2Ghz, GeForce 2, 256?mb Ram), and I don't have too much of a problem running res (well, I only get 12 FPS, but I'm happy). And it didn't seem to run any worse when I went from CWC->RES.

Speaking of drivers, not too long ago I updated my GeForce driver to the latest version, and it literally made OFP crap out on me. Apparently the latest drivers aren't always the best for running certain games. If you are having lag problems with your system, then there must be problems with something in your hardware/drivers configuration.

Hmmm...  How would I find out if I have a  problem..?  I think I updated the Go5200 drivers about four months ago.

hmmm, not wanting to seem to be getting out the ole moderator's stick, may i respectfully refer you to the avon lady's site...  ::)

on a side-note, run flashpointpreferences.exe (if it's included with 1.46) and look at your benchmark - always handy to know. if it's over 3000 you're doing well.

My benchmark each run shows between 4100 and 4600.  Doesn't seem to make it run too smooth though!  Guess there's a lot more to it.
