Eyes wide shut
« on: 22 Apr 2005, 11:20:22 »
Can I get someone to close their eyes?  I don't mean blink, I want them to shut their eyes and not open them again.  I don't want to setDammage 1 to achieve this - too much blood

Somehow, I think I've seen units die with eyes open. An easy/quick way would be to make your own face with no eyes or eyelids closed.

Really?  I wouldn't know where to start.  It is a person in a cut scene that sometimes is awake and talks and sometimes is asleep.  I can do the lying down bit it is the wide open eyes that is a bit disconcerting.

Mimics seem to alter lips and eyebrows.  But doesn't shut the eyes.

Bye the way if you want to look at all the mimics click on Faces and Voices in my signature.

Thanks I'll have a look at that.  When I saw it in comref I assumed it was something to do with the rate at which the unit would blink.

i've just had a wee look at setfaceanimation, and it doesn't seem to have any effect...

the suggestion above for creating a face with no eyes, thus making it look as if the character's eyes are permanently shut is fairly easy. you'd need to pbo a couple of faces into an addon for the mission, but it's a matter of a few kilobytes. i'll give you a hand if you want.

bedges.  Thanks for the offer - you will see that the original post was quite sometime ago.  Since then I have changed the dialogue in the cutscene from '..... asleep' to '...... resting' because of this problem, so I am not in urgent need of this now.  But as a general learning experience at some point when I have more time I would be interested in looking at it.

Dunno if you've solved this already, but why not switch diff people in when needed in the cutscene. For the sleeping, use the dude with shut eyes and when he's "awake" use the standard guy.

Thanks.  I will look at that also.  Unfortunatley I have bigger problems to deal with - like a ladder that doesn't work.
