Why won't .rar work on my ofp?

Hey, my ofpec buddies!
I have a question!
I have tried to download a few addons that end in .rar instead of .pbo, and when i put them in my addons folder, i cannot find them in the ofp mission editor!! Please help me!
p.s i am not quite sure where this predicament (question) should go, so don't grill me if it's in the wrong place!

let me guess, you're not from america? not that i want to pick on you, but winrar doesn't seem to be as common in the us as it is elsewhere.
it's similar to winzip, so head over to rarlabs.com and download winrar

btw. you should have found an answer by simply using the search buttom.
