Stringtable.csv - how?
« on: 19 May 2005, 23:09:29 »
Hi Mac

At the risk of being accused of starting a new topic - how do you use custom stringtables ?

My guess is that you make the aforesaid one page stringtable.csv, put in your entries and save it to your mission folder.  Then, rather than saying

hint "Watch out for snipers"

you say

hint SNIPER_WARNING

Of course the line for SNIPER_WARNING in your custom stringtable has columns for english, german etc outputs, just like the standard csv.

Is this correct ?

Again, please excuse if this is considered a new query . . .

Hey Roni, I think there is a tutorial for this in the Editors Depot, at least I think I saw one there once.   ::)

We've gone so far from the original question I thought we might as well start a new thread.  Hope you don't mind.

You are fundamentally correct, although obviously you need to use a command so the game knows to use the text in the stringtable text rather than the command line.    I think you need a localize command for the example you quote.     In some circumstances its a $ sign.

Tutes in the Ed Depot.   Also, grab a stringtable from a BIS mission and have a look at that.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

You can also see how to use these strange files looking into already made users mission - e.g on PMC Tactical website you can find lots of missions where these stringtable.csv files are used. I guess you can learn something new from them.
