Replacing BIS units with new ones?
« on: 26 Apr 2005, 13:56:35 »
Is it hard to replace the BIS units with new ones? Or does it need some special scripter / addonmaker? Any help would be good :)

In theory, you could do it with a text 'find and replace' in the sqm if you know all the class names. That and reference the addons correctly.  Otherwise, just edit them in the editor.

The 'unknown' would be any internal/external scripts that are using unit, weapon or ammo class names - it might start to be a bit too much trouble then.  Ammo boxes could be significant in some missions.

Finally, it's possible that new units and weapons have enhanced configs that might completely wreck the balance of the mission.

Assuming that a mission worth modifying is going to have a reasonable amount of code, it wouldn't need anything special as such, just a lot of tolerance and patience.

You can always try this tool:
http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?showthis=8180

Haven't tried it myself so I don't really know how it works etc...

If you want to change the default units into some other 'permanently' then you would need to start editing the main config...
That above tool is for changing units in some mission...

or you could download a replacement mod if you can find the one your looking for iw ould recomend EECP and Y2K3 mod's they both run on basically ecp so they have good effects but that only if you want units to look modern day basically Delta/ranger men.

Urg... there was a thread about exactly this on the official forums a while ago, but I can't seem to find it now. I'd go ask in the official forums thread for the Y2K3 or EECP mod; I'm sure they will be able to point you in the right direction. It's been asked a lot before, so all the info should be available.
