music and pictures in missions
« on: 02 Apr 2005, 04:09:01 »
hello,

I have a mission i made and i want to beat test it,

but the overview pic alone is like 30kb, and i know the attach size is only 50kb, and the mission(which with all the scripts and briefing, is 40 kbs) also has a short song which i have whitled down to 300kb, so the question is,

how am i going to beta test this with only a 50 kb attach limit.

i think For the missions and addon beta test sections only the limit should be brought up to like 5 mgs,

only one file a day about is posted in either of those boards so it wouldnt hurt bandwith too much

thanks

I'd read the sticky at the top of the beta testing board, because it addresses this issue. One great site to use is http://rapidshare.de/ (essentially a free, easy to use online hard disk). Another good site is www.freewebs.com, although the download speed from there is limited to 1k/s.

I was thinking as I'm learning PHP, a good excerise would be to smash up a uploader for beta creators. :)

My server is kinda overloaded right now though, so I think I'll wait until I get the 1.5 Mbit up instead of the 0.8 I have now. I'll get it the next weekend. :)

I believe that the attachment limit is a forum-wide thing, and cannot be different on different boards.

There is no harm in breaking your mission up into seperate bits and making two or three posts in the same thread:  say one for overview and briefing and a seperate one for the mission.

Remember that zipping the mission will reduce the size a little.

even better: use winrar!

U can devide the package over different files, it let's you indicate their size!
Then just make a couple of posts attaching a package to each one. It can get annoying when u need a lot archives to span your mission.
Get those missions out there you morons!

That's why the best solution is to find some hosting somewhere and put it there.  ;)
