Mission Setups
« on: 29 Mar 2005, 05:37:06 »
Hi there,
Im new to the forum so i may not be totally up to speed on everything. I just wanted make some simple missions in OFP, but it seems the editors not very user friendly. some things i just cant figure out, and here they are:

1. how to start a mission with a squad already loaded in a helo.
2. how to make helos land.
3. how to make helos shut off engines and wait.
4. how to make helos wait for squads to board.
5. if at all possible, how to make them hold position and deploy drop ropes,     or rope ladders.
6. how to make passengers climb down ropes, rope ladders, or eject.
7. how to setup so that helos will deploy when called in by squad leader.

i know its alot, but if someone would be kind enough to post what these comands would look like it would really help me out of a jam.

thank you.

dude, try the editor depot. Snypir, Macguba and many others have made great tutorials for beginners.

right i can do a few of these

1. name_of_unit moveincargo helo_name (must be done with everyone who you want to go in it)
2. use this "heli_name flyinheight 0" minus qoutes (but to get him to go back up you must use the same but instead of 0 use 50.) that goes in wwaypoint of chopper
3. not sure
4. give the chopper a waypoint to "transport load" and the squad a waypoint to "get in" then sycronise them together
5. check in ed depot for "rappel"
6. check in the editors depot
7. dont quite understand do you mean a radio trigger?

hope that helps

There are several specific tutorials and scripts on choppers in the Ed Depot.

However, my advice is to forget the whole thing.    Choppers, for some reason, are particularly difficult in OFP.    Much of mission editing is very user friendly and easy to do at a basic level: choppers are not.    They also tend to inhabit the grey area between the mission editor and scripting, which doesn't help.    For your first mission trying to use choppers is very ambitious, although there is no way of knowing that before you start.

Go for it if you want to by all means, but plan for plenty of frustration.   Start by reading everything the Ed Depot can provide on the subject, both scripts and tutorials.    You should also look at all of the tutorials in the Getting Started section - it will save you a lot of time and trouble in the long run.     Mission editiing has a steep learning curve at the start.    The best thing to do is run up the slope as fast as you can.   It's hard, but worth it.

Moveover, some of the things you mention (ropes and rope ladders) can be done only with addon helicopters, such as some of BAS's models.

Oh, and

Welcome to the forum!

Yea, Macca is right. I still try to avoid choppers as much as I possibly can, and I've been in this buisness for years. Choppers are evil, trucks and non-flying vehicles are your friends. As long as you don't get the drunk-AI-problem. ;)

1. how to start a mission with a squad already loaded in a helo.
2. how to make helos land.
3. how to make helos shut off engines and wait.
4. how to make helos wait for squads to board.
5. if at all possible, how to make them hold position and deploy drop ropes,    or rope ladders.
6. how to make passengers climb down ropes, rope ladders, or eject.
7. how to setup so that helos will deploy when called in by squad leader.

It looks like all his questions, excluding number 1, can be done with the BAS Blackhawks. You just need to have the helo as part of your group, or set up an event (trigger, etc) that will add one to your group when needed.

The following are solutions to your question, based on the fact of using the BAS blackhawks (or MH-47):

1. (Has already been answered)
2. In your action menu you will see "ORDER: Land MH-60L" or similar
3. When you order the helo to land, if it waits for a few seconds, it will shut down its engine. You can also manually order it to do so by using radio commands (F#>Action>Engine Off)
4. The helo will not take off or move unless you order it to, so it will wait for you and/or your team to board.
5. Again, this is done through the action menu, instructions are in the readme file that comes with the addon. It's very easy to use.
6. As with #5, read the readme for the addon.
7. If you have one already assigned to your group, and have told it to land and wait, then it will sit there until you give it orders. Another option is to add it to your group using an event, such as radio command, trigger, etc. The DAP version works in this way as well.

There are ways to do all of the above without the BAS blackhawks, excluding the fastrope and ladder stuff. But it requires a lot of scripting, so you probably would be better just using the BAS addons. If you would like, PM me and I'll walk you through all the details about those addons and how to use them in a fast and easy way.
