Chopper with AK47
« on: 26 Mar 2005, 20:11:24 »
Hi all,
I've had this idea recently. Its kinda hard to explain.  :P
You know those choppers that have no guns and only carry 2-4 people? Well sometimes, in times like Vietnam, a guy would grab onto the side of the chopper, standing on the wheels sticking out the side, and use his rifle to shoot from the chopper whilst its flying.

The only place I know to have seen any pics etc is in the film Spy Game. If anyones seen it, you know that bit where they're trying to snipe the NVA general, and a chopper comes in and blocks their view, and then chases them with the guy on the side with the AK47? Well, thats what i'm thinking here  ;)

It would be a bit like PCs horse addon (http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?showthis=7827) , with the AK47 'mounted on' vehicle, and it disappears when the gunners postition is empty.

The gunner could just be a guy standing on the wheel with one hand on the gun, and one on the chopper.

Is this possible? (That is, if you understand what i'm going on about  ;) )

This has been done on the BAS littlebirds already, the gunner has an MP5 'mounted' in the door which you can shoot and aim with. Not sure how hard it would be to implement this to other choppers and guns....?

Ah yeah, never thought of that  ;)

Well like that, but on a more kinda 'Eastern' version of a chopper (he says, still trying to find a pic)

And with the guy standing on the side, not siting inside  8)

The idea sounds a lot like it was from crappy hollywood action movies. One hand on the gun and all. You sure people actually did this in 'Nam?

Hey, I didn't say they actually hit anything  ;)

Come to think of it, I think it was more of 'grab on real tight with your legs, and shoot with your arms' thing.   :gunman:

Anyway, I think I know what chopper it was. The Mi-2.

I havn't actually seen this. I have read many biographys by guys who were there, and afew of them say at one stage, they saw it happen.

Oh, the good ol' 'Nam tactics, If-It-Is-Green-And-Is-Growing-Out-Of-The-Ground-Shoot-It-There-Might-Be-A-Hidden-Red-Under-It-And. ;D

Heres a quote from one of the biographys:

Kory reached a good spot to shoot from and set the heavy machine gun up. He waited for a moment to get a chopper in his line of sight. He pressed the trigger and more shells were added. The bullets hit many times along the side of a chopper. One even struck a soldier that was hanging out the side, shooting his rifle. Kory saw this and kept the trigger glued down. With his teeth bared, he continued to pepper the helicopter with shots. A fuel tank was soon struck and the chopper went up in flames. The chopper hit the ground with a ground-rocking explosion.

That doesn't mean he had to hang out like a badass-mofo-action-character. He could've leaned out whilst still sitting on the edge or the seat of the chopper. Right?

Ah whatever.  ;)

I didn't want it to look 'badass-mofo-action-character' like, just to a NVA chopper without a heavy MG on it, but still have the ability to do a small amount of damage.

Why must you shoot my idea down in flames?  ;D

Best to do what BAS did. Make an AK on the side of a MI-2. What I really like to see is a Kasatka with a PK or a DVSK (did I spell it right?). No more gimungous Mi17s for troop carrying. ;D

And I know the NVA were crazy, but if you're gonna inflict some damage, its better to sit yer arse down and aim. No monkey/arnold/rambo tactics.
