« on: 23 Mar 2005, 02:46:21 »

Code: [Select]
helo land "land" or "getin/getout" instead.

but the god d**n helicopter lands whereever he wants.... maybe beacuse there are trees or buligings near... but it is pocible to force it to land in a sertian point??? or maybe land in roofs???

Have a waypoint near the landing point that sets the speed of the chopper to Limited.  Then have a series of waypoints close together that have a flyInheight less than the previous waypoint.  That way bring the chooper down to about 5 or 10 m above your invisible H, then do a land "land" instruction.

Choppers seem to want to find flat ground to land on.  By getting them down low you reduce the amout of land they can see.

I am curently working on a script that forces helicopters to land more precisely at the desired location.  It is about 90% complete.  I am trying to make it as flexible as possible  so that the same script can be used for ground deployment/extraction, fast-rope deployment and rope-ladder extractions.  I expect to be finished working out the bugs by the middle of next week.  So far the bugs I have are:  Problems with landing on hills when approaching from an elevation below the crest of the hill, and problems with ladder extraction (sometimes is works, but sometimes the chopper drifts too much and when I try to have my ladder track the chopper it blinks in and out of view if there are men climbing it, maybe a LOD problem in my ladder addon).

Anyway, when I am done with it I will submit it to the editor depot.

In the meantime check out the existing chopper landing scripts in the editor depot.  The best (I think) is by snYpir.  His is great, but still requires waypoints.  The one I am working on will allow a chopper to divert from its waypoints to do a drop-off/ pickup then it will resume its waypoints.  Also the one I am making will even allow landing on sloped terrain (as long as it is not too steep), and on top of buildings.

Yeah, surprising as this may sound, helicopters can't just stop in mid-air on a whim.

Flyinheight only goes down to 30m, but at this height and at a slow speed ( set it to Careless as well ) you should be able to do it with ain invisible H.

Oh and trust me, you really don't want a 'land' type command, as then you have to stop the waypoints to get it to fly off again.

Even a 'land get in' command can be risky, try having them get into it, with a 'get in' command syncronised to the waypoint afterwards, NOT the same waypoint as you would like it to land. Then it will work properly.

Have fun!

I have used flyinheight down to 0, but it looks crap.  That is why I suggested 5 to 10.
