a BIG town
« on: 20 Mar 2005, 16:31:51 »
How about to make (not me, some ace out there) a big big town with the mostly enterable buildings for some serious urban fightings, say a whole Desert Island as a town or something even bigger.

If something like this already exsist please let me know.

Thanks for the suggestion greg147, I look at it and that's about the idea, only I have in mind something more "european" (and not so -at all- in ruins), like Lipany or Petrovice, only 10 - 20 times bigger (and better and nicer done ;)).

Ah, OK.

Well, off the top of my head I suggest Newland beta 3. Its on the first islands page of ofp.gamezone.cz .

Or one of the older Newland islands. They all have huge town/s on them.  ;D

EDIT: Heres a pic

Personally, I hated the Stalingrad map. There was no layout to it. It wasn't a city, it was a large random placement of buildings and no roads.  :P

Oh yes, according to the picture that Newland3 is most likely candidat, but I can't dl him for the closer look (the page cannot be displayed it says, and only for that island - am I lucky or what :-\), I've also checked the other Newland islands and they're OK.

But I'll be realy thrilled if some of the skilled addon makers will do something even bigger and more impressive; an island and a BIG town on it with the clusters of tall buildings, with the suburbs of normal houses, with bus stations, ports ...  just imagine the heavens for the (urban)snipers, or to chase them, and this are only two amoung the many other possibilities.

I think we realy need such an island.

Load the Noe.wrp into a hex editor, the Noe.wrp will start thus:

4F 50 52 57 03 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 01 00 00
00 01 00 00 00 01 00 00 2F 03 50 00 00 04 02 40
04 0F 04 0F 00 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04
0F 04 0F 04 0F 00 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F
04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 00 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04

The 5th byte which is 03, should be changed to 02.
The 9th byte throught to and including the 24th byte should be removed.

Once this is done the Noe.wrp will start thus:

4F 50 52 57 02 00 00 00 2F 03 50 00 00 04 02 40
04 0F 04 0F 00 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04
0F 04 0F 04 0F 00 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F
04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 00 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04
0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 00 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F 04 0F

Now save the Noe.wrp file and you should now be able to load it into WrpEdit.

P.S.   Use a copy and not the original

WrpEdit is looking for O.pbo.

Unfortunately it cannot read the original file.

The only fix for this is to have a modified copy which it can read.

You would then need to swap the original with the copy every time you wanted to load Noe.pbo into WrpEdit and then put the original copy back again before playing OFP.

The editing required for the O.pbo copy is to remove the first 46 bytes in a hex editor.

Hmm, doesn't work, i'm sure i goofed somewhere  :( Am i supposed to put the modded O.pbo where the Noe.wrp is? Or into the res\addons where the original O.pbo is? (tried both neither worked) Looks like winter Nogojev in the preview...

But i've been told WRPTool is supposed to be easier, maybe even i could use it... I'll give that a shot if i can't open noe in wrpedit  ??? Hope i don't fail at both for crying out loud...

Try not to start addon editing questions in addon ideas please.

I've looked at that newland island pic and it wipes out my suggestion... ::)

I forget what buildings it was, but maybe it was AGS or something that made tons of city oriented objects that you could use with BIS objects to create one heck of a city island.

And if you don't want to do that, try looking in the dungeons of ofp.info using search or look in islands. Same with OPflash.org.

I do some search, but nothing satisfying (for me) comes up.  So I saw a niche here.

I don't have any desire, or time, but mostly the knowledge to create such an island, I merely suggesting if some of the addon makers is up to it.

Though I supose the island will not be much popular because of its huge Mb millage.  But this can be compesated with great missions that can be made on such island.

EDIT: Ah and yes, you're right about that editing question.  When I saw it I've gone like "What the ...  ???

I think the Gaia island has some massive towns, but you might have to d/l the entire WG Mod to use it - but maybe not.

Although, I don't think the buildings are enterable.

btw The reason there aren't islands with huge towns with mostly enterable buildings is because of the lag that would create. Its much less stressful for OFP if there are lots of boxes as supposed to lots of boxes inside boxes (if you see what I mean).

@ greenbob

You could always use WrpTool, which opens Nogova without any trouble.

Yes Lean Bear, I see what you mean, I feared that the lack of such maps with the enterable buildings can be related with the lag problem.

That's a shame, because I have some great ideas for the missions on such map.  Not a long ago I've watched an excellent WW2 documentary "The battle for Aachen".  Now what a carnage that was!  Firstly there were a street fightings, then house to house fightings, then floor to floor, then room to room.   I know (as does all the sane people) that war sucks and that is a brutal thing, but after that documentary I was in shock!

Well, I'll survive if no such map will come out in the future; there's plenty other maps out there to play with.
