alternative ending hehe
« on: 03 Mar 2005, 01:53:28 »
i got a really evil idea for a alternative ending for my mission where you will get extracted by a blackhawk but on the way back to the LST ship things goes wrong and a su-25 pops up from behind and starts firing on the blackhawk, the thing is i want it syncronized somehow with the blackhawk so the plane doesn't show up to early or to late  :P

Set it up so at the right moment the Su25 is setposed at a point behind the UH-60 and make sure the point at which you start the plane at is above sea level. Then go from there. Use some of that creativity you've got to make sure the plane is just right before the "surprise".

I've done something similar and the timing is a nightmare.     SetPos (with a setDir) is the only way.    Ensure that the plane is flying in roughly the right direction before it is setPossed.

ohh man..  :P can't i do it without createvehicle? and setpos?
im experimenting with a switch trigger and some waypoints but it seems like the su-25 doesn't show up in time so far, but im thinking about switching it to a mig-29 by seademon wich i remember even has AA rockets so i could get the bas blackhawks missile alert sounds to start sounding off!  ;D

You could do it fine with waypoints and triggers except for the timing.    To make a good cutscene it has to be right to within about two seconds, otherwise either the camera shot misses the action or the player is watching something not happening, which is confusing and/or tedious.

The game engine is very sophisticated when it comes to gameplay, and it is this sophisticating that gets in the way of cutscene making.

Even if you could get past the game engine limitations, you still get problems resulting from different computers having different setups.    Cutscenes can be very demanding on the computer (partularly if you have rapid changes from one part of the island to another) and some kit is better than others.     In other words, even if it works on your computer that doens't mean it will work on somebody else's.

Consequently, the more precise you can be in your instructions to the units.   Waypoints and triggers are too vague in this context.      On the other hand if the plane is setpossed into a position relative to the chopper, and the camera is also relative to the chopper, then you've got a good chance of making it work.

I wouldn't use createUnit for this because you have the hassle of making the plane fly.    Just have it cruising somewhere.

well its not really a cutscene its justbefore or after the mission complete text and you get hit in the back by some rockets or cannon fire from a hostile aircraft  ;D
just like a last scary part when people will go shit! will we make it alive reall???   8)
got it working with a su/25 by placing it north of the empty LST ship and doing the switch trigger thingy instead  of having it on the north side of the extraction lz.... north of the island  :P
well just have to see that it doesn\t go after the player when they are using the secondary extraction point by boat .. that could get really nasty and impossible to get away without getting the boat totatally sunk  ;D maybe coc _dive suits??  :D but that would be really evil and annoying to have to swim 2000 m to the ship
