Mission name in stringtable
« on: 31 Mar 2005, 21:24:45 »
In the intel box in the mission editor, I have given my mission the name:
@STRM_D25

In my stringtable, I have STRM_D25 followed by the appropiate text.  However, when I open up the missions list ingame, the title of my mission is blank.  What am I doing wrong?

why are you using the a string?

all you use the in-editor intel box for is to put the correct title at the top of the briefing page. just type the mission name in! other than that, the briefing and notes are created externally and saved as briefing.html and overview.html in the mission folder.

I read somewhere that this is the correct way to do it for bilingual support.

I want my mission to be in English and German.  If I just type the name of the mission in, the name will be english even if the settings are set to German.

I always thought the name portion in the intel box also affected the name of the mission.  It has to somehow, because my mission name disappeared when I changed the name to the @string.

I'm not even sure if you can point to the stringtable file from the briefing/overview title like that... if you've seen it done before, I'd depbo the mission and see how they did it. Otherwise, you might try:

$STRMblahblah

because that is how the stringtable is used in the description.ext file.

It is because the game is looking in the BIN stringtable.csv, not the stringtable.csv specific to the mission.

I have no idea whether there is a way round this.  I suppose there is no harm in trying a localize command.

Check that your stringtable.csv is working correctly.     Remember that it must have only one sheet and it must be closed with the mission re-saved for changes to work.

I have de-pbo'd an official mission, and saw the name written with "@".  However, I have been unable to find where it gets the name, as the entry doesn't show up in the stringtable.

EDIT:
Just read your post, Macguba.  Thanks for the info, I will try to make the localize command work.

I know my stringtable is working, because it is working for other things.

Did the official mission have it's own stringtable inside the mission pbo?

Yes.  But the mission name is the BIN stringtable.

The localize command didn't work with the name.  I am going to forget about trying to set the name with the stringtable.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!
