Using Addons in existing missions
« on: 20 Feb 2005, 15:17:58 »
Hello,

I hope someone can help me with the following question:
I would like to know if there is any program/tool available to change any existing mission , to be able to choose any of those nice addon weapons available.

I have already tried many times with the most common programs but they all seem to be based on making a new mission with addons, and therfore you have to open the mission one by one, knowing what what you get when you play it after.

So my wish is to be able to modify a mission to simply, equip the player and his team with any disired addon weapon set (available from your addon folder) in the briefing/gear menu in the game. therfore being able to play a mission with a certain gear, change gear, and retry.
or just play any mission with your favourite weapon.

Is there anything like this out there?

Kind Regards,

For weapons loadouts i think you can change the configs so they start with the weapons of your choice, but do that with the default BIS guys and they'll always have the addon weapons. hope that helped.

Dear GI-YO,

Thanks for your quick answer, and sorry for my lack of knoledge, but is it the Config.bin file you are refering to?, and if so with which program do I have to open the file in order to get something readable to modify instead of all those strange programing codes?

Kind Regards

If you "dePBO" the mission .pbo file you can create a (or modify the) description.ext file.  If you put the weapons/ammo loadouts in that file you will then be able to give those weapons/ammos to your squad in the "gear" section of the briefing.  Of course you must have the addon for any weapons you put in the discription.ext. ;D

I missunderstood what you are tying to do, sorry.  You want your weapons to always be available in any mission without having to modify the mission.  I think it is not possible because the description.ext that is already in most missions along with what the maker has put in the inti feild of the units when he made the mission will overrule what you do to the config.bin file.

So what you can do is make your own file with all the weapons you want and append that to the existing weapons section in the descrition.ext in every mission you download (you will still have to dePBO and rePBO it afterwards).  I think that that is the only way you can do it.
