Can someone please explain these config lines?
« on: 08 Feb 2005, 19:14:56 »
What do these lines in a planes config do?
What are the values associated with the landing AOA? does it have anything to do with spacing between two planes that are grouped?

landingAoa="7*3.1415/180";

formation time=5;

thanks

Without knowing anything abot plane configs (but with a littele knowledge of aerodynamics) it looks like a turning radius calculation. That is: How wide a circle must the plane make before it can face the oposite direction it is travelling in right now.

A high turning radius would be a large and clumsy plane (like C-130 or a bomber) or a very fast plane without maneuver abilities (an air liner). They have to circle a lot before they can turn or find the right angle of aproach to an airfield.

A low radius would be a fast fighter plane, that is designed for dog fights (or a very slow plane that maintains airspeed at almost no thrust). They don't circle much and  are thus able to land on short or narrow landing strips or even carrier ships.

It seems as if the first number (7 in your example) is the important factor. Change it and see what happens. And remember... I'm just making a wild guess  ;D

Hmmm.......yes

I think landingAoa means 'Landing angle of attack'.

It most probably has to do with the angle of approach whilst landing.

landingAoa="7*3.1415/180";

3.1415 is of course Pi

FWIW - 3.1415/180 is the conversion factor for converting radians into degrees.

At a guess, this aircrafts landing angle of attack (?) is 7 degrees - sounds about right from what I know . . .

Haven't a clue about formation time, my suggestion as to do a search of the entire config.bin an see where it is used again.
