Pronunciation

I am doing some sound files for a mission in which I refer to some towns on Malden.  Is there a pronunciation guide, or a known standard?  

The specific places are:
La Trinte, which I pronounce La Trinitay
and
Vigny which I pronounce as Vigni with a hard g  (One of my voice actors insits it should be pronounced Vinya)

Any thoughts?

My guess for Vigny would be 'vinn-ee' or 'vinyee' - silent 'g'; Bastogne being the only thing I can think of to support my argument at present.

The main comment was that soldiers don't have pronunciation guides so are known for renaming places - Ypres became Wipers, Bourgebous Ridge became 'Bugger-bus' Ridge etc. so perhaps anything goes - particularly if it's corruptable to something corrupt.

Thanks.  Unfortunatlety these are not soldiers, but native civilians so they will need to get it right.

Personally I give a french pronunciation (I'm italian):
La Trinitè
Witn an accent to the final  "e" wich I mantain longer than a normal one (e.g. "èe").

After all OFP was created by  some skilled  europeans guys...So I suppose that the right pronunciation should be done with an neo-latin/slavic pronunciation.....
But after all we're talkin' about a  (almost) fictional island with (almost) surely fictionals nameplaces for a (totally) fictional situation..

Well actually my parents are dead so that won't help.  They couldn't speak anything other than broad Yorkshire so they would have been no use anyway.  No its my wife and kids that are telling me it is wrong (I can only speak narrow Yorkshire).  

There was a mission I played where there were some bitchy comments about the pronunciation of La Trinite so I wanted to get it right.

I have now run out of excusses and am getting the microphone out.

Pronounciation is inconsistent even within BIS sound files.   I suspect they just left it up to the actors.

All the place names (at least all the ones I've checked) are real, although not all where you would expect.    If you really wanted to do it right, I'd recommend finding the places, google your way to international phone books, and ring the post office in each town to ask them how they pronounce it.    This would look very impressive in your readme.    You could then record sound files of the correct pronounciation and put them in the Ed Depot for everybody's benefit.    ;D

La Trinite [sur mer] is in Brittany: there is an acute accent on the final e which would make it trinit-ay.   Vigny is just outside Paris.     I'm with ACF on this one, although I suppose it might be Vee-gnay with the weight on the Vee and a hard but ephemeral g.

I think I remember reading some comments for one mission where people were objecting to pronunciation of some of these place names.  I don't expect to get any complaints when I eventully put it in for beta testing ;D

OK, I've done the hard bit and found all the locations.    (Well, almost all, some have defeated the combined assault of my atlas and google.)
