Convoy issue
« on: 12 Jan 2005, 17:07:12 »
Hi there!

Very new to the mission builder.

I want to add a convoy to my mission, making it's way through a series of waypoints. How do I configure the setting and grouping for the vehicles, so they don't bump into each other and not try to pass each other. I want them to stay in single file.

(Oh, and I am a n00b to this, so please treat me as one)   ;)

What I do is very low tech.

Insert the vehicles in the editor, set their rank so the leader is the highest, the next vehicle is next in rank etc.  Then group the vehicles to the leader one at a time in the order front to back.  Set their first waypoint to Formation = column.

I have only ever experience one problem with doing this and that is I had a hospital BRDM that kept insisting it wanted to be at the front of a support convoy not the back.  I guess it thinks it is the fromation leader.

All my other vehicle convoys have worked well doing it this way.

Just try it and see.

Setting behaviour to careless or safe helps and saves a lot of frustration. ;D

Use as few waypoints as possible.

Convoys are always tricky.     The order of vehicles is detemined by the position in the group (1 at the front, then 2 and so on).     In certain circumstances this is not the same as the rank order, but if you follow THobson's instructions it should be fine.

I always set skill pretty high.    Wheeled and tracked vehicles do not mix well.

If your vehicles are driving in a kind of zig zag move any static objects you have placed close to the road back a little.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

True.  I forgot to mention that.

That is the only time I have had problems.  BRDM with Support vehicles.  Mind you I have used Bradleys, Vulcans, BMPs with trucks and urals with no problem.

I think BRDMs are screwy for a reason. They are in the armored section when they should be in cars cause the infantry can rifle them to death.

So maybe the BRDM being armor, the convoy gets screwy or something. :P

But I always wondered why the brdm was where it is... :-\

Ok, thanks a lot for all your help. I'll try to fix the mission tomorrow, using your suggestions.
