Armed truck
« on: 24 Dec 2004, 09:45:31 »
Would it be possible to make a 5t truck/ural, and make it so one of the units in cargo could shoot out of if with their gun?
Like, if it had a gunners seat, which would have the gunner sitting with whatever weapon he had aiming out the window.
A bit like BASs 'little bird' chopper, where the gunner can use his MP5 out of the window (even though it stays there).

Thanks

no that isn't possible because the engine of OPF
you can make an Machinegun on the truck but the soldiers in cargo can't shoot.

I didn't mean the soldiers in cargo, I ment having one gunner. If you have used the BAS little bird (which I hope someone has, cos this is hard to explain) then you'll see the gunner is just a guy who sits next to the pilot with an MP5 sticking out the window, that he can fire.  :)

I'm just thinking about doing that, but on the ground, in a truck. Maybe the changing weapons bit of it was going too far  ;)

It is somewhat possible just put it like this:
removeAllWeapons truck;
truck addWeapon (weapons gunner truck select 0) this way the gunner can use his rifle. Ofcourse the gun model in the truck doesn't change, you would need to make new models for them.....

Look in the editors depot... there is a script... "Soldiers sitting on a moving tank" or something like that... I have tested it and it works pretty well... Only though you canÂ't turn much there but itÂ's a start... ;)
Do I need to play Operation Flashpoint to be here?

Yep, i tested that one. You can't turn and you can't get out.  ::)
Pretty useless. Except for cutscenes, where it really does add a finishing touch to the mission  ;)

I was just thinking about giving a truck a gunners position, in a single addon, where it would look like the gunner was aiming a M16 or something out of the window.  8)

Never seen the kind of truck but I've wanted one too. It'd prolly have to be coded like a jeep w/.50 cal.

I'd like either an M16 out the window or a M16 out the rear, with a guy kneeling in the truck bed. Cause really, how many times are you charging the enemy postions with 5ton trucks? I'm always running. :P :-\ ;D

And you'd need the appropiate weapons for the east and resisitance side. In fact there was a thread on this not to long ago... :P

oh  kinda like  Joint Ops  or battlefield vietnam   right?

ok   my freind   actually did  this      except  not exactly what your expecting

just like BAS did  with the MP5 hanging out  of the chopper  he did the same with the uncovered 5-ton truck

instead of haveing "Backseat" positions  every position  is a "Gunner" position  and  theres  M-16's  and  M-60's    dotting the back  where the soldiers dont sit down   they  stand  as if they were useing  an M16 or M60
not a 50-cal  emplacement

Ill  go talk to him  tomarrow  and get  you the codeing and scripting  stuff  that comes with it  so you can copy and paste   etc,etc

What about the moving tank thing? I'd suggest scripting it so that it would be possible to activate the attach script through action menu and then it would setPos you in the back of the truck, but wouldn't turn the soldier. Then he could shoot... Though that would require heavy scripting to be used on player controlled AI units...

All sounds good, we might have some nice addons soon... ;D

However, why are these guys standing up? I wouldn't stand up in a moving truck while trying to shoot, especially an M60 or M249. :o :P

I'd prefer a simpler guy kneeling by the tailgate with a M16 or M60 using the tailgate as a steadier, to keep the gun from bouncing around tooo much. Also make the other appropiate models for the easties and resistanceies. :)

Make those and I'm sure plenty of ppl would jump at them.
